Professor Jung-Ho Bae's research lab specializes in clinical and computational health informatics, focusing on improving gastrointestinal disease diagnosis and management through advanced data analytics. The lab develops natural language processing (NLP) pipelines to extract and structure clinical information from unstructured endoscopy and pathology reports, enhancing quality metrics such as adenoma and sessile serrated lesion detection rates. It also investigates clinical decision support tools using radiologic, laboratory, and colonoscopic data to differentiate complex conditions like Crohn’s disease and intestinal tuberculosis. Additionally, the lab explores medical image analysis and decision-making support systems in endoscopy and radiology.

15OBJECTIVES: As dental implant-related paranasal sinusitis has different pathophysiology and clinical features from primarily rhinogenic paranasal sinusitis, the standard treatment protocol for dental implant-related paranasal sinusitis has not yet been established. The aim of this study was to analyze the clinical characteristics and treatment results of dental implant-related paranasal sinusitis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We conducted a prospective single-center study of 19 patients who were treate
PURPOSE: There are marked differences in facial skeletal characteristics between Asian and Caucasian. However, ethnic differences in age-related facial skeletal changes have not yet been fully established. The aims of this study were to evaluate age-related changes in Asian midfacial skeletons and to explore ethnic differences in facial skeletal structures with aging between Caucasian and Asian. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study included 108 men (aged 20-79 years) and 115 women (aged 20-81 years)
OBJECTIVES: We investigated the relationship between olfactory function and depression and suggested future research in this area from rhinology. METHODS: We independently searched 5 databases (PubMed, SCOPUS, Embase, the Web of Science, and the Cochrane database) for recent studies published from December 2019 to the present. From the obtained studies, we reviewed the findings on olfactory function and depression using a questionnaire to measure depression and olfactory tests. RESULTS: = .0123)
BACKGROUND: [6]-Gingerol is a major active component of ginger and a natural polyphenol compound. The present study investigated whether [6]-gingerol suppresses interleukin (IL)-1 beta-induced MUC5AC gene expression in human airway epithelial cells and, if so, examined whether the suppression of MUC5AC gene expression is mediated via the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signal transduction pathway. METHODS: MUC5AC mRNA and protein were measured using reverse transcription-polymerase chain
Wegener's granulomatosis (WG) is a systemic vasculitis affecting small and medium-sized vessels with granulomatous formation. Though it is known for respiratory tract and kidney involvement, neurologic manifestation has been also reported. Herein we report a patient who suffered pansinusitis with multiple lower cranial nerve palsies but reached remission by immunosuppressant after the diagnosis of WG. A 54-yr-old female visited with headache, hearing difficulty, and progressive bulbar symptoms.
Use of systemic steroids as an adjunct to systemic antibiotic therapy for orbital cellulitis may decrease orbital inflammation with a low risk of exacerbating infection. Based on our analysis, we concluded that early use of steroids for a short period can help shorten hospitalization days and prevent inflammation progression.
Impaired ipsilateral smooth pursuit and gaze-evoked nystagmus in paramedian pontine lesion A 27-year-old man developed sudden dysarthria and left-sided weakness and paresthesia. Gaze-evoked nystagmus (GEN) was evident in bilateral horizontal gazes (see the video on the Neurology Web site at www.neurology.org). Rightward pursuit was interrupted by catch-up saccades while leftward pursuit was normal (figure, A, and video). Saccadic eye movements and vestibulo-ocular reflex were normal. Brain MRI s
BACKGROUND: Exposure to urban particulate matter (UPM) is linked to the aggravation of various health problems. Although the nasal cavity is the first barrier to encounter UPM, there is a lack of studies on the impact of UPM on the olfactory area. The purpose of this study was to investigate the cytotoxic effects of UPM on mouse olfactory epithelium, the underlying pathophysiology involved, and changes in cytokine levels. METHODS: Mice were divided into 4 groups: control, 400UPM (administered 40
Extrapulmonary tuberculosis is not rare and occurs mainly in the head and neck region. Cervical tuberculous lymphadenopathy is the most common form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis. Sinonasal tuberculosis is known to occur very rarely due to the protective functions of sinonasal mucosa. Although some signs of sinonasal tuberculosis may be present, such as associated facial abscesses, the symptoms and signs are usually nonspecific. Clinical suspicion is important for timely diagnosis and proper man

Objectives: We aimed to provide information on the effects of tonsillectomy, in particular, its effects on taste dysfunction; also known as dysgeusia, and provide direction for future research in this area. Methods: We independently searched five databases (PubMed, SCOPUS, Embase, the Web of Science, and the Cochrane database) for related studies published as recently as December 2019. From the included studies, we reviewed the findings on tonsillectomy and taste disturbance through the use of a
We presented 2 cases of lipogranuloma of the cheek following autologous fat injection. Facial autologous fat injection for soft tissue augmentation is a frequently used technique in the field of plastic surgery. Although this procedure was thought to be a safe procedure without foreign body reactions, there had been several case reports on lipogranuloma following autologous fat injection, especially into the periorbital area. In our cases, we experienced delayed lipogranulomas of the cheek area
Nasal chondromesenchymal hamartoma is an extremely rare neoplasm of the nasal and paranasal sinuses. We present the case of a 10-month-old boy with a huge nasal chondromesenchymal hamartoma that was complicated by sleep-disordered breathing. The mass was completely resected by image-guided endoscopic surgery and confirmed histopathologically as a chondromesenchymal hamartoma. In this report, we discuss the characteristics and treatment of this unusual tumor.
