研究室紹介

Professor Jungwon Yoo's research lab specializes in anterior segment imaging and microvascular assessment in glaucoma, with a focus on optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) to evaluate peripapillary vessel density in various glaucoma subtypes such as pseudoexfoliation glaucoma, normal-tension glaucoma, and primary open-angle glaucoma. The lab investigates the structural and hemodynamic changes in the anterior segment, including anterior scleral thickness and ciliary body anatomy, particularly in relation to intraocular pressure regulation and glaucoma progression. A key research direction involves understanding the effects of glaucoma medications—especially prostaglandin analogues—on anterior segment tissue remodeling over time. The lab also explores the impact of scan alignment variability on retinal nerve fiber layer measurements, emphasizing the importance of standardized imaging protocols in clinical diagnosis.

Peripapillary Vessel Density in Glaucomatous Eyes: Comparison Between Pseudoexfoliation Glaucoma and Primary Open-angle Glaucoma

SJR Q1Journal of Glaucoma

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to compare the peripapillary vessel density between eyes with pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PXG) and eyes with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). METHODS: Peripapillary vessel density in the radial peripapillary capillaries was assessed using optical coherence tomography angiography, and compared between patients with PXG and those with POAG, matched for age and mean deviation (MD) of standard automated perimetry. The vessel density was measured between the opti

Effect of prostaglandin analogues on anterior scleral thickness and corneal thickness in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma

SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

Prostaglandin (PG) analogues are usually prescribed as a first-line therapy in patients with glaucoma because of its once-daily dosing benefit and effective intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction. However, the mechanism of PG analogues is not completely understood. In this study, we investigated the effect of PG analogues on the anterior scleral thickness (AST) in treatment-naïve eyes with primary open-angle glaucoma using anterior segment optical coherence tomography. The AST was measured at the

The Influence of Eccentric Scanning of Optical Coherence Tomography on Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Analysis in Normal Subjects

AIM: To investigate the influence of eccentric scanning on retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) analysis using Stratus optical coherence tomography (OCT) in normal Koreans when the eccentricity of scanning occurs in 4 different directions. METHODS: Thirty-one eyes of 31 persons underwent 1 concentric disk-centered and 4 superiorly, inferiorly, nasally and temporally eccentric RNFL OCT scans. RESULTS: The average RNFL thickness measured by temporally eccentric scanning (115.1 microm) was significantl

Although primary open-angle glaucoma (OAG) generally occurs in older individuals and manifests in eyes with elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), it may also occur in young patients or in eyes with an IOP that always measures within the statistically normal range. Recent advances in optical coherence tomography angiography have enabled noninvasive visualization of the vasculature around the optic disc. In this study, we investigated the clinical features of young Korean patients with OAG and comp

To investigate the relationship between glaucoma severity and intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction after cataract surgery in patients with medically controlled primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).Retrospective case series. This study included glaucoma suspects (GS) and POAG patients who underwent cataract surgery and continued to use the same glaucoma medications during the postoperative period of 4 months. The main outcomes were percent and absolute IOP changes calculated using the preoperative I

PURPOSE: To assess the relationship of intraocular pressure (IOP) to age, sex, and other demographic and health characteristics in a Korean cohort. METHODS: This retrospective cross-sectional study included subjects (n = 155,198) without glaucoma. All participants underwent health screening at the Kangbuk Samsung Hospital from August 2012 to July 2013. Anthropometric measurements, systemic health characteristics, and ocular examination including noncontact tonometry were performed on all partici

Intraocular Pressure Elevation during Lateral Body Posture in Side‐sleeping Glaucoma Patients
Ji‐Hye Park, Chungkwon Yoo, Eunjoo Yoo, Yong Yeon Kim
SJR Q2Optometry and Vision Science

SIGNIFICANCE: In side-sleeping open-angle glaucoma (OAG) patients, eyes that showed progression exhibited a greater intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation when subjects were rested in the lateral decubitus (LD) posture on the ipsilateral side compared with those eyes that did not progress. PURPOSE: The purposes of this study were to investigate whether lying in the LD position for an extended period affects IOP in side-sleeping patients with OAG when rested on their own pillow and to compare postu

Comparison of Intraocular Pressure Measurements between Icare Pro Rebound Tonometer and Tono-Pen XL Tonometer in Supine and Lateral Decubitus Body Positions

SJR Q2Current Eye Research

IOP readings obtained with Tono-Pen and Icare Pro tonometers showed good agreement in supine as well as in lateral decubitus positions, although Icare readings were higher than Tono-Pen readings in all positions. Such differences in IOP readings between the different tonometers need to be considered when measuring IOPs in various body positions.

Atypical Acute Syphilitic Posterior Placoid Chorioretinitis

SJR Q2Korean Journal of OphthalmologyOA

A 48-year-old man presented with visual dimness in the right eye that had developed 2 weeks previously. Dilated fundus examination showed few vitreous cells and numerous yellow, placoid lesions in both eyes. His right eye had more severe serous retinal detachment involving the macula. Fluorescein angiography demonstrated early irregular hypofluorescence with late staining in the areas of the yellow placoid lesions. He started a regimen of 60 mg of oral prednisone daily. Two weeks later, a serolo
