In South Korea, scrub typhus is the most common acute febrile illness in autumn. We analyzed scrub typhus cases reported from 2008 to 2012 to describe the epidemiology of scrub typhus as well as eschar patterns. A total of 30,478 cases were reported from 2008 to 2012; the incidence rates were higher in the southern and western regions of South Korea. The common clinical symptoms of confirmed scrub typhus cases from 2010 to 2012 were fever/chills (95.2%), eschars (78.9%), and myalgia (61.7%). The

High-speed filtration using highly porous fiber media for advanced and compact particle removal
Heidi B. Guerra, Siping Niu, Kisoo Park, Youngchul Kim
SJR Q2Water Science & Technology Water Supply

Since its recent introduction to the filtration industry, one of the major concerns about the use of fiber in water treatment has been its applicability for high-rate filtration while minimizing the build-up of headloss. In this study, a compact, modular filter employing non-woven, highly porous polypropylene fiber as filter media was investigated for the treatment of turbid water under high filtration rates. The impact of different operating variables such as polyaluminum chloride (PAC) dose an

Saliou (Eur J Epidemiol, 1994, 10 (4), 515–517) argued that pandemics are special kinds of crises and requires the public health sector to focus on: 1) reducing uncertainty, 2) rumor mitigation, and 3) ensuring the public reduces their risk of contracting the disease. With this as a backdrop, the central aim of this research is to better understand the connections between public information seeking, evaluation, and self-protective behaviors in the COVID-19 pandemic and focuses on a comparison be

Simvastatin Reduces Lipopolysaccharides-Accelerated Cerebral Ischemic Injury via Inhibition of Nuclear Factor-kappa B Activity
Angela M. A. Anthony Jalin, 이재철, 조금실, 김춘숙, 주청, 박기수, 송화영, 김원기

Preceding infection or inflammation such as bacterial meningitis has been associated with poor outcomes after stroke. Previously, we reported that intracorpus callosum microinjection of lipopolysaccharides (LPS) strongly accelerated the ischemia/reperfusionevoked brain tissue damage via recruiting inflammatory cells into the ischemic lesion. Simvastatin, 3-hydroxy-3-methylgultaryl (HMG)-CoA reductase inhibitor, has been shown to reduce inflammatory responses in vascular diseases. Thus, we invest

SJR Q2Environmental Technology

This study was carried out to identify the filter performance of fibre filter module treating high-turbidity water at extremely high filtration rates (1000-2500 m/day). The effects of filter aid chemical (polyaluminium chloride (PAC)), filtration rate and particles size on filter performance were investigated. It was found that PAC was a crucial factor influencing the separation process. Even though the optimum PAC dose for the raw water with turbidity of 50 nephelometric turbidity units (NTU) w

A laboratory study was undertaken to pursue the filter performance of a micro-filter module employing highly porous fibre media under a high filtration rate (≥1,500 m/day), faster than that of any conventional filter process. The effects of filtration rate, head loss, raw water turbidity, and filter aid chemicals on filter performance were analysed. In spite of the extremely high filtration rate, the filter achieved an attractive efficiency, reducing the raw water turbidity by over 80%. As with
