研究室紹介

Professor Keon-Seok Lee's research lab specializes in suicide prevention, psychiatric epidemiology, and severe mental illness, with a strong focus on improving clinical assessment tools and understanding suicide risk factors. The lab investigates the validity and reliability of suicide screening instruments such as the Ask Suicide-Screening Questions (ASQ), explores clinical characteristics of suicide attempters—particularly those using high-lethality methods like carbon monoxide poisoning—and examines the challenges in diagnosing and treating severe psychiatric disorders such as treatment-resistant schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The lab also contributes to policy-relevant research, including revisions in mental health legislation and the development of standardized diagnostic criteria.

Reliability and Validity of the Korean Version of the Ask Suicide-Screening Questions (ASQ)
김현진, Kim Sunhae, Son Youkyoung, Youn Insook, 이건석

Background: The Ask Suicide-Screening Questions (ASQ) tool is a simple suicide screening tool developed to screen patient suicide risk (SR). The purpose of this study was to verify the reliability and validity of the ASQ tool in hospitalized patients. Methods: The internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the South Korean version of the ASQ tool were verified in 99 hospitalized patients admitted to a tertiary medical institution in Seoul. To verify the correlations and validity of each

조화연, 이건석, 손수진, 강형구, 김석현, 노성원

Background: The rate of suicide by carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is increasing rapidly in Korea. In this study, we aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics of suicide attempters in Korea and to identify risk groups for choosing CO poisoning as a suicide method. Methods: Patients who visited the emergency department after attempting suicide between April 2017 and June 2019 were included in this study. We reviewed the medical records and evaluated the demographic and clinical data of sui

Purpose: Bipolar disorder (BD) is characterized by alternating episodes of mania or hypomania and depression, resulting in substantial psychosocial impairment. Despite its clinical importance, BD is frequently underrecognized or misdiagnosed as major depressive disorder (MDD) or other psychiatric conditions. This review aims to summarize current diagnostic criteria, key clinical differentiating features, and validated assessment tools in order to enhance diagnostic accuracy and facilitate earlie

SJR Q1Neuro-OncologyOA

INTRODUCTION: Primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) is the most common primary malignant childhood brain tumor and is usually seen as an intraparenchymal lesion, typically arising in the cerebellum (as a medulloblastoma). Peripheral PNET (PPNET), a member of the Ewing's sarcoma (ES) family of tumors, is a tumor of putative parasympathetic neural histogenesis, typically developing in the soft tissue and skeletal structures of the trunk and extremities. We report here four cases of atypical prima

Schizophrenia is one of serious mental illnesses and is often described as a heterogeneous disorder. Approximately one-third of schizophrenia cases are treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS). The aim of this study was to review the definitions and clinical features of TRS. Though it was found that the criteria for TRS were considerably diverse, the Treatment Response and Resistance in Psychosis (TRRIP) consensus criteria were recently introduced. According to the TRRIP criteria, TRS should be s
