Professor Kihwan Kwon's research lab focuses on cardiovascular disease mechanisms and innovative interventional therapies, with a strong emphasis on imaging-based risk stratification, percutaneous repair of complex vascular lesions such as mycotic aneurysms, and the development of novel therapeutic strategies for cardiotoxicity and atherosclerosis. The lab integrates molecular imaging, mechanobiology, and advanced delivery systems—particularly shock wave-based technologies—for targeted therapy. Key research directions include identifying flow-sensitive endothelial markers, protecting cardiomyocytes from chemotherapy-induced damage, and engineering extracellular vesicles for efficient siRNA delivery in cancer therapy.

15LGE confined to the RVIP among NICM patients did not significantly increase the risk of adverse cardiac events, and also showed a better outcome than the same extent of LGE located in the LV. Identification of this unique LGE distribution may help refine the current risk stratification.
