Individual Investor Sentiment and Stock Returns: Evidence from the Korean Stock Market
Minhyuk Kim, Jin-Woo Park
SJR Q1Emerging Markets Finance and Trade

We investigate the dynamic relationship between individual investor sentiment and stock returns in the Korean stock market. The evidence indicates that individual investor sentiment has no significant explanatory power for cross-sectional stock returns. However, individual investors’ trades can move stock prices in certain stocks by their contrarian behavior, which leads them to implicitly provide liquidity to other market participants. In addition, individual investors earn a small market-adjus

Ultrafast spatial coherent control methods for transition pathway resolving spectroscopy of atomic rubidium

SJR Q1Optics ExpressOA

We demonstrate the use of the ultrafast spatial coherent-control method to resolve the fine-structure two-photon transitions of atomic rubidium. Counter-propagating ultrafast optical pulses with spectral phase and amplitude programmed with our optimized solutions successfully induced the two-photon transitions through 5S1/2-5P1/2-5D and 5S1/2-5P3/2-5D pathways, both simultaneously and at distinct spatial locations. Three different pulse-shaping solutio

Rydberg Quantum Wires for Maximum Independent Set Problems with Nonplanar and High-Degree Graphs
Minhyuk Kim, Kangheun Kim, Jaeyong Hwang, Eun-Gook Moon, Jaewook Ahn
arXiv (Cornell University)OA

One prominent application of near-term quantum computing devices is to solve combinatorial optimization such as non-deterministic polynomial-time hard (NP-hard) problems. Here we present experiments with Rydberg atoms to solve one of the NP-hard problems, the maximum independent set (MIS) of graphs. We introduce the Rydberg quantum wire scheme with auxiliary atoms to engineer long-ranged networks of qubit atoms. Three-dimensional (3D) Rydberg-atom arrays are constructed, overcoming the intrinsic

Depositor Behavior and Failure Prediction - Evidence from Savings Banks in Korea -
Minhyuk Kim
SJR Q3Korean Journal of Financial StudiesOA

This study contrasts 'surviving' and 'failed' savings banks regarding depositor discipline, and how each group responds to the disciplinary action of depositors. The analysis showed that deposits in surviving savings banks decreased when the banks faced higher management risks, while deposits in the failed ones increased even when the banks faced higher management risks.Uninsured deposits were more sensitive to management risks than insured deposits, and were subject to stronger depositor discipl

Financial Conglomerate Affiliation, Insurance Companies’ Performance, and Risk
Minhyuk Kim
SJR Q3Korean Journal of Financial StudiesOA

This study analyzes the relationship between financial conglomerate affiliation, insurance companies’ performance, and risk. For verification, a univariate analysis was conducted using a propensity score matching technique and an ordinary least squares regression model was estimated. As a robustness check, the Heckman two-stage regression model, which is known for correcting self-selection bias, was also estimated. The main results are as follows. First, as a result of belonging to a financial c

TORSO: Template-Oriented Reasoning Towards General Tasks
Minhyuk Kim, Seungyoon Lee, Heuiseok Lim
OA

The approaches that guide Large Language Models (LLMs) to emulate human reasoning during response generation have emerged as an effective method for enabling them to solve complex problems in a step-by-step manner, thereby achieving superior performance. However, most existing approaches using few-shot prompts to generate responses heavily depend on the provided examples, limiting the utilization of the model's inherent reasoning capabilities. Moreover, constructing task-specific few-shot prompts
