Professor Kim, Young-Soo's research lab focuses on translational biomedical research with a strong emphasis on neurodegenerative diseases, cancer therapy, and bioactive compounds from natural sources. The lab investigates molecular mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s disease, particularly the roles of oxidative stress, protein aggregation (Aβ and tau), and cell death pathways such as necroptosis, aiming to develop neuroprotective strategies. It also explores targeted cancer therapies using TRAIL and PPARγ ligands to overcome tumor resistance, and investigates bioactive peptides and natural antioxidants—such as sulforaphane and pigmented rice bran compounds—for their therapeutic potential. The lab integrates molecular biology, cell biology, and preclinical disease models to bridge basic discoveries with clinical applications.
