Professor Koung Mi Kang's research lab specializes in clinical and quantitative MRI applications, focusing on advanced diffusion and perfusion imaging techniques to improve the diagnosis and characterization of neurological and abdominal tumors. The lab investigates the role of IVIM, DWI, ASL, and contrast-enhanced MRI in differentiating tumor types, assessing malignancy, and understanding cerebrovascular and neurodegenerative pathologies. Their work also explores the impact of MRI contrast agents on tissue relaxation times and the association between cerebrovascular disease and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.

15IVIM-derived perfusion-related parameters could be helpful for the differentiation of common malignant tumors in the pancreas and for distinguishing malignant from benign IPMNs. D(fast) and f were more valuable parameters in the differentiation of PACs from NETs than were ADC and D(slow).
PURPOSE: To investigate the added value of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) to magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) with unenhanced MR imaging for predicting the malignancy or invasiveness of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Following Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval, this retrospective study included 52 patients with surgically resected IPMNs and who underwent MRCP, unenhanced MRI, and DWI. Three blinded radiologists evaluated the t
Purpose To determine the association between the administration of the macrocyclic contrast medium gadobutrol and T1 relaxation time in the brains of patients with normal renal function by using multidynamic multiecho (MDME) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging sequences. Materials and Methods The institutional review board approved this retrospective study, and the need to obtain written informed consent was waived. This study included 46 patients (revealed by an electronic medical record search) wh
ASL imaging could detect CCD in 75% of patients with hyperacute infarction. We found that CCD was more prevalent in patients with arterial occlusion, larger ischemic brain volumes, and higher initial NIHSS and mRS scores. In particular, vessel occlusion and initial mRS score appeared to be significantly related with CCD pathophysiology in the hyperacute stage.
BACKGROUND: To clarify whether atherosclerosis of the carotid and intracranial arteries is related to Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology in vivo, we investigated the associations of carotid and intracranial artery stenosis with cerebral beta-amyloid (Aβ) deposition and neurodegeneration in middle- and old-aged individuals. Given different variations of the pathologies between cognitive groups, we focused separately on cognitively normal (CN) and cognitively impaired (CI) groups. METHODS: C] Pitt
Simple scoring systems using standard clinical MRI were developed and validated for predicting isocitrate dehydrogenase and 1p/19q codeletion status in adult-type diffuse gliomas lacking contrast enhancement.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Crossed cerebellar diaschisis, not only a secondary result of supratentorial infarction but also an indicator of clinical outcomes, has frequently been reported on PET and SPECT but has been rarely described with arterial spin-labeling MR imaging. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of arterial spin-labeling MR imaging to evaluate crossed cerebellar diaschisis compared with that of SPECT. To our knowledge, this is the first study to validate arterial sp
OBJECTIVE: There has been controversy as to whether gadobutrol, one of the widely used macrocyclic gadolinium-based contrast agents, can lead to gadolinium retention after serial injections. Our aim was to validate whether serial administrations of gadobutrol can cause signal increase in the dentate nucleus (DN) and globus pallidus (GP) on unenhanced T1-weighted magnetic resonance (MR) images due to gadolinium retention. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 189 patients who had undergone at least 2
Magnetic resonance relaxation times and the volumes of the whole tumor and the inner enhancing portion were measured larger on the 10 minutes or 20 minutes delayed images than on the 1 minute delayed images. The MDME sequence immediately after contrast injection cannot fully reflect the effects of gadolinium-based contrast agent leakage in the tissue.
OBJECTIVE: We aimed to describe the imaging findings of multidetector CT coronary angiography (MDCTA) in cases of vasospastic angina (VA) and to determine the accuracy of MDCTA in the identification of VA as compared with invasive coronary angiography with an ergonovine provocation test (CAG with an EG test). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty-three patients with clinically suspected VA were enrolled in this study. Two radiologists analyzed the stenosis degree, presence or absence of plaque, plaque co
4b gating was more reproducible with respect to measurements of IVIM parameters in comparison with 4b or 17b.
The purpose of this study was to investigate preservice secondary biology teachers' understanding of biotechnology. Most preservice teachers have heard about biotechnology and they have high recognition about usefulness rather than danger of biotechnology such as genetically modified food, genetically modified animal for medical treatment, genetic test, gene therapy, etc. They have relatively lower understanding about genetic test that have caused social controversy recently than other topics. Relative hippocampal volume measures provided by automated brain segmentation software can be useful for screening cerebral Aβ positivity in clinical practice for patients with amnestic MCI. The information may also help clinicians interpret structural MRI to predict outcomes and determine early intervention for delaying the progression to Alzheimer's disease dementia.
AIMS: The aim of this study was to investigate the associations of enlarged perivascular spaces (EPVS) in the basal ganglia (BG) and centrum semiovale (CSO) with beta-amyloid (Aβ) and tau deposition in older adults with a diverse cognitive spectrum. METHODS: F] AV-1451 PET, and MRI. EPVS in the BG and CSO and other small vessel disease markers, such as white matter hyperintensities, lacunes, and deep and lobar microbleeds, were assessed. RESULTS: Increased EPVS in the BG showed a significant ass
