Professor Kwon Soon-hyo's research lab specializes in dermatological disorders with a focus on melasma, photodynamic therapy, and laser-based skin treatments. The lab investigates the histopathological mechanisms of melasma, emphasizing its role as a photoaging disorder involving extracellular matrix changes, vascularization, and immune cell infiltration. It also explores innovative therapeutic approaches, including novel photosensitizers like indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) for acne and seborrheic dermatitis, and advanced laser technologies such as pulsed erbium:YAG and long-pulse pulsed dye lasers for scar and hemangioma management. The lab integrates clinical dermatology with translational research to develop safe and effective topical and light-based therapies.
