Professor Kyu-Jung Ahn's research lab focuses on metabolic diseases, particularly type 2 diabetes and its complications, with an emphasis on understanding the pathophysiology, identifying biomarkers, and evaluating therapeutic interventions. The lab investigates the role of nutritional supplements like taurine in improving glucose and lipid metabolism, and conducts large-scale clinical studies to assess the economic and clinical burden of diabetes-related complications in the Korean population. Their work also explores cardiovascular risk markers such as the apolipoprotein B/A1 ratio and evaluates combination therapies for optimal lipid management in diabetic patients. The lab is actively involved in prospective cohort studies, including the Korean National Diabetes Program (KNDP) and the Korean Diabetes Prevention Study, to establish evidence-based strategies for diabetes prevention and management.
