Professor Kyu Tae Hwang's research lab specializes in microsurgical reconstruction and trauma surgery, with a focus on complex soft tissue and bony defects resulting from trauma, infection, or tumor resection. The lab investigates innovative free flap techniques—particularly the anterolateral thigh (ALT) and latissimus dorsi flaps—for reconstructive challenges in the lower extremities, including Achilles tendon and segmental bone defects. We investigated the incidence of soft-tissue lesions after small head metal-on-metal total hip replacement (MoM THR). Between December 1993 and May 1999, 149 patients (195 hips) underwent primary cementless MoM THR. The purpose of this study was to investigate the incidence of symptomatic venous thromboembolism (VTE) after chemoprophylaxis in patients with pelvic and lower-extremity fractures, and to identify risk factors for VTEs in this subgroup of patients. To detect VTE, multi-detector computed tomography (CT) angiography was performed.
