Professor Kyung Nam Kim's research lab specializes in biomaterials and biomedical engineering, with a focus on developing corrosion-resistant and biocompatible materials for ophthalmic and orthodontic applications. The lab investigates the electrochemical behavior, cytotoxicity, and long-term stability of metal alloys—particularly titanium-silver and super stainless steels—under physiological conditions. Additionally, the lab explores the health impacts of environmental exposures, such as air pollutants and endocrine-disrupting chemicals like bisphenol A, on metabolic and respiratory health, especially in aging populations. 15PURPOSE: To evaluate the clinical usefulness of a new rebound tonometer, Icare(®) PRO (Icare PRO), by comparison with Goldmann applanation tonometry (GAT) in a study on patients with glaucoma. METHODS: One hundred and seventy-two eyes of 86 subjects were enrolled in this study. In case of uncomplicated AGV implantation, the cumulative risk of corneal decompensation was 3.3%, 5 years after the operation. The ECD loss was statistically greater in eyes with AGV than in control eyes without AGV, but the difference was significant only up to 2 years post surgery.

The demand of bone graft materials has been increasing. Among various origins of bone graft materials, natural coral composed of up to 99% calcium carbonate was chosen and converted into hydroxyapatite (HA); silicon was then substituted into the HA.
