研究室紹介

Professor Kyung-ri Kang's research lab specializes in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering, with a primary focus on bone and dental tissue regeneration. The lab investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying osteogenic differentiation, periodontal disease progression, and the therapeutic potential of low-level laser therapy and ultrasound in accelerating tissue repair. Key research directions include the impact of systemic conditions—such as aging, diabetes, and estrogen deficiency—on bone healing, as well as the role of inflammation in neurodegenerative and periodontal diseases.

Simvastatin Promotes Osteogenic Differentiation of Mouse Embryonic Stem Cells Via Canonical Wnt/β-Catenin Signaling
Ling Juan Qiao, 강경리, 허정선

Simvastatin, an inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, has been known to reduce cholesterol biosynthesis. However, recent studies demonstrate that simvastatin shows diverse cholesterolindependent functions including cellular differentiation. In this study, we investigated the stimulatory effect of simvastatin on the osteogenic differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells (ESCs). The osteogenic effect of simvastatin was observed at relatively low doses (ranging f

Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor alpha 7 and beta 4 Subunits Contribute to Nicotine-Induced Apoptosis in Periodontal Ligament Stem Cells
김소연, 허정선, 강경리, 이정채

Nicotine, a major component of cigarette smoking, is the important risk factor for the development of periodontal disease. However, the mechanisms that underlie the cytotoxicity of nicotine in human periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) are largely unknown. Thus, the purpose of this study was to determine the cytotoxic effect of nicotine by means of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) activation in PDLSCs. We first detected 7 and 4 nAChRs in PDLSCs. The gene expressions of 7 and 4 nA

According to the burst of aged people, researchers have focused on aging-related diseases. Cognitive impairment including Alzheimer’s disease (AD), one of the representative diseases related to aging, has no treatment option until now. Recently, it has been revealed that systemic inflammation plays a fundamental role in the pathogenesis of AD. Previous studies have suggested the association between poor oral health and cognitive impairment. Poor oral health can cause dental caries, chronic perio

저출력 레이저 조사가 난소절제 백서의 발치와 치유에 미치는 영향
강경리, 정종혁

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of low-energy laser(980 nm GaAlAs diode) irradiation on the healing of extraction sockets in ovariectomized(ovx) rats. After ovx and sham operations of 24 female, 12-week-old, Sprague-Dawley rats, 4 weeks have passed for systemic osteopenic changes. Then the first maxillary molars were extracted and only the right sockets were irradiated with laser for 1 minute(30 sec irradiation, 30 sec rest, and 30 sec irradiation) at intervals of 24 hour

This study was performed to investigate the effect of low-energy laser irradiation on extraction socket healing in strptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. 24 male rats(about 12 weeks old) were divided into 4 groups : 1) Extraction and natural healing in normal rat for control group, 2) Extraction and low-energy irradiation therapy in normal rat for experimental group I, 3) Extraction and natural healing in streptozotocin-induced rat for experimental group II, 4) Extraction and low-energy irradiatio

강경리, 박준봉, 지유진, 류동목, 이덕원

Nowadays laser gets attention again as a novel method in various treatment fields, such as oral surgery, endodontic and periodontal treatment, etc. Also biostimulation is an special area that we can't pass over. Biostimulation means that low-level laser irradiation promotes the regeneration process in bone, soft tissue, and peri-implant tissue. Although the mechanism has not been elucidated, many reports have supported the biostimulation effect and it is generally accepted. In this feature artic

저강도 파동형 초음파를 이용한 골 재생 촉진
강경리, 정종혁

Ultrasound has been studied for stimulation of bone fracture healing for a long time. After many researches of high and low intensity ultrasound, researchers became focused on low-intensity pulsed ultrasound(LIPUS) recently. One of the effects of LIPUS is acceleration of bone regeneration without unfavorable results such as bone necrosis and fibrous or delayed healing, but the exact mechanism is not elucidated yet. The purpose of this feature article is to review researches of LIPUS up to now an

Extensive gingival necrosis and sequestration of the alveolar bone caused by methimazole-induced neutropenia and three-year follow-up
김은철, 박준봉, 홍지연, 강경리

Purpose: Methimazole is an anti-thyroid drug that can cause life-threatening neutropenia in rare situations. The aim of this case report is to describe a set of oral complications asso¬ciated with methimazole-induced neutropenia and the healing of the gingiva after proper treatment. Methods: A 31-year-old female patient hospitalized for systemic symptoms of sore throat and fever and showing extensive gingival necrosis with pain was referred to the Depart¬ment of Periodontics from the Department

This study was conducted to propose guidelines for Korean geriatric dentistry education in response to changes in society in which the number of older persons is rapidly increasing. By referring to the American, European, and Japanese geriatric dentistry curriculum, the same or highly related items were integrated and reorganized, and new items were added considering the need for education. Through inter-researcher discussion, geriatric dentistry education topics and educational competency items

Oral care and dental services for the dependent older people of Korea is still extremely limited and not easily provided. Depending on where the dependent older people resides, such as the nursing facilities, individual homes, and nursing hospitals, access to dental personnel and the scope of oral care and dental treatment can be quite different due to disparities in rules and regulations for different institutions. In this study, the term ‘community oral care/palliative treatment system (COCS)’
