研究室紹介
Professor Mi Seon Lee's research lab specializes in second language acquisition (SLA), with a particular focus on syntactic processing and sentence comprehension in bilingual and second language learners. The lab investigates how learners of different languages—especially those with typologically distinct word order, such as Korean and English—process complex syntactic structures like relative clauses and gap-filler dependencies. Using eye-tracking methodologies in both L1 and L2 contexts, the lab explores the interplay between structural complexity, linear distance, and processing strategies, contributing to our understanding of universal and language-specific processing mechanisms in human language comprehension.

15A variety of studies have reported that learners of English as a second language find subject relative clauses easier to produce and comprehend than direct object relatives, but it is unclear whether this preference should be attributed to structural factors or to a linear distance effect. This paper seeks to resolve this issue and to extend our understanding of SLA in general by investigating the interpretation of subject and direct object relative clauses by English-speaking learners of Korean
The involvement of patients and families is essential for improving patient safety. However, the role of patients and caregivers in patient safety has recently been receiving attention, and programs and interventions have been implemented for patients and caregivers. The objective of this systematic review was to identify the types of interventions to improve patient safety that focused on engaging patients and their families, and the effectiveness of these interventions. Searching four electron
INTRODUCTION: The importance of correct and timely communication continues to be emphasised in the area of patient safety. Nurses play a key role in communicating with a variety of healthcare personnel to deliver safe care for patients. Many attempts have been made to improve nursing professionals' communication competencies regarding patient safety. However, the scope, method and effectiveness of communication education regarding patient safety for registered nurses have not been sufficiently r
The goal of this study was to explore the effect of the case-marking information from pre-verbal arguments on the anticipatory processing of Korean sentences. More specifically, it was examined whether the case-markers can be used to predict an upcoming argument even before it is introduced into the string. In our eye-tracking experiment using the visual-world paradigm, 24 adult native speakers of Korean showed significantly more anticipatory eye-movements to the potential referent of a Theme ob
This paper investigates the comparative processing difficulty of dative and subject relative clauses in Korean, using an eyetracking method. Previous studies of relative clauses have concluded that an object gap is more difficult to process than a subject gap across languages. Two possible explanations for this subject-gap preference are that an object gap is a) structurally more distant from its head or b) linearly more distant from its head than a subject gap. The explanation in (a) predicts t
Lee, Miseon. 2011. Korean Autistic Children's Interpretive Preferences in Quantifier-negation Patterns. Korean Journal of Linguistics, 36-4, 1015-1029. It is well known that a sentence containing both a negative and a quantifier, such as Mina-ka motun cepsi-lul an takk-ass-ta 'Mina didn't wash all the dishes,' is ambiguous: the sentence has either the full set interpretation (i.e., Jane didn't wash any dishes.) or the partitioned set interpretation (i.e., Jane washed some of the dishes.). Previo
INTRODUCTION: Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, outpatients' concerns about infection risk have increased. It is crucial to understand the factors that contribute to this fear of infection to promote patient safety and encourage outpatients to seek proper follow-up treatment without fear. This study aims to understand the relationship between outpatients' experiences of patient safety and their fear of infection. DESIGN: This was a secondary analysis of national data from the Healthcare Service Experi
The present study explores how 4- to 6-year-oldKorean children comprehend four types of relative clauses which arevaried by the semantic prominence of the head noun and the type ofrelative clause (i.e., subject relative clause vs. object relative clause). Results from a picture-selection task confirm the effects of semanticprominence and relative clause types on comprehension of relativeclauses. They also demonstrate age-related variations that youngerchildren are more dependent on the semantic
