Professor Mihyun Choi's research lab specializes in anterior segment and vitreoretinal diseases, with a focus on intraocular lens biocompatibility, vitreous cytokine profiles in retinal pathologies, and the ocular complications associated with systemic events such as COVID-19 vaccination. The lab investigates surgical outcomes, including capsular contraction and corneal changes after refractive surgery, and conducts experimental studies on cyclophotocoagulation to evaluate its effects on ocular tissues. The team also investigates rare but severe complications such as fungal endophthalmitis linked to contaminated surgical products, emphasizing clinical epidemiology and treatment outcomes in real-world settings.

Purpose: To analyze the differences in the vitreous cytokine profiles in epiretinal membrane eyes with and without an ectopic inner foveal layer (EIFL). Methods: Sixty eyes with epiretinal membrane (32 eyes without EIFL and 28 eyes with EIFL) were included. The vitreous samples were collected during surgery for epiretinal membrane. The melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) belongs to the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family and plays an essential role in the control of energy homeostasis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate density change in the retinal capillary plexus during intra ocular pressure (IOP) elevation in vitrectomized pigs' eyes using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).
