研究室紹介
Professor Min-sung Son's research lab focuses on health policy, health equity, and social determinants of health, with a strong emphasis on the impact of health insurance systems, socioeconomic status, and environmental factors on health outcomes. The lab investigates issues such as moral hazard in national health insurance, healthcare inequality, maternal and maternal health, and the interplay between social deprivation, air pollution, and infectious diseases like tuberculosis. Using large-scale national survey data and advanced statistical methods, the lab aims to inform policy reforms that enhance both efficiency and quality in healthcare delivery while promoting equitable access to services.

15The moral hazard behind insurance membership, depending on how NHI maintains policies to confer benefits, may give rise to differences in medical utilization. This phenomenon must be closely monitored to find a way to reform NHI when the rights of medical service consumers are solidified through PHI.
This study examined the effects of healthcare inequality on personal health. It aimed to determine how health insurance type and income level influence catastrophic health expenditure and unmet healthcare needs among South Koreans. Unbalanced Korean Health Panel data from 2011 to 2015, including 33,374 adults, were used. A time-trend and panel regression analysis were performed. The first to identify changes in the main variables and, the second, mediating effects of unmet healthcare needs and c
Despite its importance to maternal health, women’s empowerment in developing countries has yet to be adequately addressed. We investigated the effects of women’s empowerment and media use on maternal antenatal care in Southeast Asian countries. The data originate from the Demographic and Health Surveys conducted in Southeast Asia between 2011 and 2014 (n = 35,905). We conducted Poisson regression and meta-analyses to examine communication inequalities in the media use for the relationships betwe
The objective of this study was to identify the association between social deprivation, outdoor air pollution, and tuberculosis (TB) incidence rate or mortality rate. The study sample comprised 25 districts in Seoul, Korea. We used two public data derived from the Community Health Survey and Seoul Statistics. The geographic information system analysis and random effects Poisson regression were applied to explore the association of social deprivation and air pollution with TB incidence and mortal
There is a need to develop non-occupational intervention programs, which provide workers with training about workplace depression and improve social support, and the programs should provide time for employees to have active communication. Additionally, companies should provide employees with support to access mental healthcare thereby decreasing the occurrence of workplace depression.
Methods: Major data sources were the “2012 Korean Assessment of Propriety by Long-term Care Hospitals” obtained from the HealthInsurance Review & Assessment Service. Cost variables were supplemented by a National Tax Service accounting document. First, dataenvelopment analysis was performed by generating efficiency scores for each LTCH. Second, matrix analysis was conducted to ascertainassociation between efficiency and quality. Lastly, kruskal-wallis and mann-whitney tests were conducted to ide
It is essential to enforce legal standards appropriate to the facilities, reduce turnover of nursing staff, and invest properly in human resources. These consequences will help LTCH to maintain the balance of high efficiency-high quality in the long-run.

Understanding factors that promote vaccination is a critical first step. We evaluated the effect of the National Health Insurance (NHI) policy including dental sealant on changes in the prevalence of sealant and caries, and examined how NHI affected sealant utilization and untreated caries in children from diverse income groups in South Korea. We used a multivariate logistic regression analysis to explore the effects of three stages of dental sealant policy (pre-policy: 2007–2009, first post-policy: 2010–2012, and second post-policy: 2013–2015) on the prevalence of d
South Korea recently expanded its coverage rate of long-term care insurance (LTCI) by adding a "dementia special grade" in 2014 to improve care service accessibility and extend health life for older adults with dementia. In this study, we propose a multifaceted policy to reduce the suicide risk among older adults with dementia by evaluating the effectiveness of using the long-term care services (LTCS). A sample of 62,282 older adults was selected from the "Older Adults Cohort DB" of the National
This study investigates whether self-employed beneficiaries experience greater difficulties in accessing dental care than insured employees based on their income level. This analysis uses 2011-2015 data from the Korea Health Panel, a population-based and nationally representative sample, covering 7083 participants aged 18 years and older. We measured barriers to dental access based on unmet needs or the inability to receive necessary dental care owing to the past year's economic burdens. The typ
