Professor Min-young Seo's research lab focuses on otorhinolaryngological and systemic diseases with an emphasis on nasal and upper airway disorders, including allergic rhinitis, sleep apnea, and post-viral olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions. The lab investigates molecular mechanisms underlying these conditions using preclinical models and clinical data, with a particular interest in novel therapeutic interventions such as natural extracts (e.g., onion) and non-invasive monitoring techniques like cardiopulmonary coupling analysis. The research also extends to neurological and renal implications of systemic factors, such as Klotho in acute kidney injury, highlighting a translational approach from bench to bedside.

15BACKGROUND/AIMS: The potential physiologic roles of Klotho in acute kidney injury (AKI) have recently been demonstrated in animal models. However, to date, there have been no human studies investigating the expression of renal Klotho in AKI. The prevalence of olfactory and gustatory dysfunction was 24.2% in mild COVID-19 patients. All patients had hyposmia due to sensorineural olfactory dysfunction, which was confirmed using validated olfactory and gustatory evaluation methods and endoscopic examination. Olfactory and gustatory dysfunction may be characteristic indicators of mild COVID-19.
