Professor Mingwan Kim's research lab specializes in advanced energy storage materials and interfacial engineering, with a primary focus on aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) and lithium metal batteries (LMBs). The lab investigates fundamental mechanisms governing metal anode stability, particularly addressing zinc dendrite growth and lithium corrosion through innovative electrolyte design and additive engineering. Key research directions include surface overpotential modulation, hydration shell rigidity, and solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) stabilization using molecular-level additives. The lab also explores magnetic nanoparticle assemblies with 3D vortex structures, combining electron holography and micromagnetic simulations to understand emergent collective magnetic behaviors.

We report the electron holography images of spin configurations in peculiar assemblies of soft magnetic nanoparticles in single-, double-, triple-, or quadruple-sphere geometrical arrangements, in which each particle has a three-dimensional (3D) magnetic-vortex structure.
