Professor Minjung Maing's research lab focuses on urban environmental quality and housing sustainability in high-density urban contexts, particularly in Asian megacities like Hong Kong. The lab investigates age-friendly urban design, emphasizing outdoor thermal comfort and physical design elements in high-rise public housing. It also explores intergenerational housing pathways and affordability perceptions among young adults, integrating socio-economic factors such as parental financial support. The research combines empirical field measurements, survey data, and innovative analytical methods like view factor modeling and reliability interval analysis.

Using semi-structured interviews with 160 university students, this paper analyses the anticipated housing pathways of young Chinese in Hong Kong and compares between local Hong Kong and non-local mainland students. We identify six different anticipated housing pathways by considering differences in expectations of parental support and perceptions about the affordability of homeownership.
