Professor Minkyung Han's research lab specializes in population-based epidemiology and health services research, with a focus on inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and occupational health in the Korean population. The lab conducts large-scale, nationwide cohort studies using national health insurance claims data to investigate disease burden, treatment patterns, and health disparities. Key research directions include cancer risk in IBD patients, the use of complementary and alternative medicine in RA, regional variations in medication prescribing for IBD, and comparative effectiveness of biologic therapies in ulcerative colitis. Patients with intestinal BD demonstrated a higher risk of hematologic cancer, especially leukemia, than the general population. Furthermore, women with intestinal BD showed a higher risk of all cancers.
The increased overall risk of developing IA after tuberculosis corroborates the hypothesis that tuberculosis can trigger dysregulated immunity. This necessitates an increased awareness of autoimmunity in this patient group.
