IPTV는 2010년 초반 가입자가 200만 명을 넘어서는 등 빠른 성장세를 보이고 있다. 그러나 이러한 성장세의 지속 여부에 의문이 제기되고 있다. 이러한 의문은 IPTV 성장의 주요 기반이 서비스 자체의 경쟁력에 있느냐 하는 점과 2010년 들어 가입자 증가 속도가 둔화되고 있으며, 가입자수의 증가에도 불구하고 IPTV 사업자들이 수익을 내지 못하고 있는 점 등 때문에 제시되었다. 이러한 현상은 현재의 IPTV서비스가 시장에서 요구하는 적절한 서비스 위치를 확보하지 못하였기 때문에 발생한다. 본 연구는 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해, 케이블 TV가입자들의 IPTV로의 전환 요인이 무엇인지를 밝혀내어 소비자들이 인식하고 있는 IPTV 만의 서비스 가치가 무엇인지를 분석한다.

통신 기술의 발전과 디지털 융합의 진전 등 통신 환경의 변화와 함께, 우리나라는 정보통신 관련 서비스에 대한 소비가 급증하면서 통신비가 급증하여 왔다. 이 같은 상황은 사회적인 문제로 대두되고 있으며, 통신비 인하압력으로 표출되고 있다. 통신서비스에 대한 사용자의 지출행태를 분석하는 것은 통신비 지출에 대해 수요자 측면에서 분석함으로써 실사용자의 변화된 소비행태를 인식하는데 도움을 줄 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 통신비 지출이 급증하기 이전과 최근의 통신비 지출 행태의 변화양상을 통신서비스의 소비단위인 가계를 중심으로 살펴보고자 한다. 특히 본 연구에서는 통신비 지출 행태가 가계 특성에 따라 어떻게 달라지는가를 세밀히 분석하기 위하여 위수회귀모형을 이용하였다. 이를 통한 본 연구의 시사점은 통신환경 변화에 따른 수요자 측면에서의 소비행태 변화를 객관적으로 설명할 수 있는 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
