Professor Namjo Kim's research lab specializes in tourism and hospitality studies with a focus on socio-psychological and environmental dimensions of tourism development. The lab investigates resident and tourist attitudes, motivations, and behavioral responses in tourism contexts, particularly in relation to social exchange, perceived impacts, and sustainability. Key research directions include green tourism, climate change adaptation in tourism, adventure recreation behavior, and the role of public sector attitudes in tourism policy implementation. The lab employs mixed-methods approaches, including surveys, structural equation modeling, and content analysis, to explore tourism dynamics in East Asia, especially South Korea and North Korea.

15This study identifies resident attitudes toward tourism and investigates the latent structures among impact variables that affect host attitudes. A conceptual model of host attitudes, based on perspective of social exchange theory, was empirically evaluated. Abstract This study aims to identify the motivations of people travelling to North Korea, and to determine the effects these have on the travel decision‐making process. An on‐site survey was conducted with Chinese tourists in Dandong, China. The results of an exploratory factor analysis identified four motivation factors: red (communist identity), uniqueness, convenience, and escape. The results suggest that motivations for tourism to North Korea have at least a partial influence on attitudes. “
This study deals with the relationships between adventure recreationists' locus of control and perceived risk, and professionalism. The paper adopted the internet survey on scuba divers affiliating scuba diving associations of like-minded people in Korea. This study tries to find and manifest various phenomena involved with hosting of 2002 FIFA World Cup. Authors adopted content analysis, analyzing contents of newspaper articles of the time. They collected major newspapers’ articles related to the World Cup published from May 30th to July 5th 2002. Authors found that the 2002 FIFA World Cup revealed the ways of Korean lives well. Using results of multi-regional input-output transaction tables, this study compares among main tourism industries. To aggregate four kind of tourism industries, authors applied tourism ratio criterion that already has been publicized. 문화유산해설사 양성교육이 더욱 좋은 성과를 나타내기 위해서는 이미 시행되고 있는 교육프로그램의 평가를 통해 개선된 교육프로그램의 개발이 필요하다. 본 연구는 이러한 취지에서 이미 시행되고 있는 문화유산해설사 양성교육프로그램을 중요도-성취도 기법(IPA)을 이용하여 2004년도에 시행한 경기도 문화유산해설사 양성교육프로그램을 평가하여 양성교육프로그램의 개선에 필요한 시사점을 도출을 하였다. 중요도조사는 문화유산해설사 양성교육 첫 날인 2004년 4월 6일에 실시하였고, 성취도조사는 교육의 마지막 날인 4월 10일에 실시하였다. 이 조사에서는 유효표본 131매를 확보하였으며, 문화유산해설사 양성교육 참여자를 대상으로 양성교육 수강 경험자와 비경험자, 문화유산해설사 자원봉사 활동자와 비활동자, 양성교육 수강 여부와 자원봉사 활동 여부의 조합(2 2)으로 구분하여 중요도-성취도 분석을 시행하였다. 분석 결과 문화유산해설사 양성교육프로그램은 참가한 수강자의 경력에 양성교육에 대한 중요도가 성

As a new rural tourism policy, the project of Green Rural Tourist Village for promoting rural economy and increasing rural quality of life has been implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry since 2001.
