Professor Namseok Sim's research lab specializes in the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying focal cortical malformations and drug-resistant epilepsy, with a focus on brain somatic mosaicism and its role in epileptogenesis. The lab integrates neurogenomics, digital pathology, and organoid technology to uncover disease-causing mutations, particularly in genes like *SLC35A2* and mTOR pathway components, and to develop non-invasive detection methods using cerebrospinal fluid-derived cell-free DNA. A key direction involves translating histopathological classifications into molecular diagnostics to improve surgical outcomes in pediatric epilepsy. The lab also pioneers long-term human and murine salivary gland organoid models to study epithelial cell biology and regeneration.
