To investigate the nasal carriage of antibiotic-resistant pneumococci by children, anterior nasal swabs were done for 4963 children <5 years old in 11 countries in Asia and the Middle East. The QMAC-dRAST system provided rapid results and represents an alternative to conventional AST methods. The QMAC-dRAST with colony isolates produced more reliable results for staphylococci and enterococci than the QMAC-dRAST with PBCB.
