Professor Nangyo Lee's research lab focuses on neurological and psychiatric disorders, particularly in aging populations and high-stress populations such as medical students. The lab investigates the interplay between neurological conditions—like stroke, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and ADHD—and their impact on cognitive function, physical performance, and psychosocial outcomes. A key focus is on identifying biomarkers and risk factors for conditions such as accelerated brain aging, dementia-related caregiver violence, and stroke-related driving safety, with translational goals in clinical rehabilitation and public health policy.

SJR Q1Journal of Rehabilitation MedicineOA

OBJECTIVES: To investigate: (i) the intra-rater, inter-rater and test-retest reliabilities of completion times and step counts on the Standardized Walking Obstacle Course test (SWOC); (ii) correlations between SWOC scores and stroke-specific impairments; (iii) the cut-off SWOC completion times and step counts for distinguishing differences in obstacle negotiation ability in people with chronic stroke and healthy older adults. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. SETTING: University-based rehabilitatio

To define the causal relationship of ischemic cerebral infarction to automobile accidents in hospitalized patients a computerized hospital record search with ICD-9 diagnostic codes 433 and 434 for occlusive cerebrovascular disease, and E810 and E819 for motor vehicle traffic accidents was conducted over a three-year period. Inclusion criteria required patients be identified as the driver of the vehicle and demonstrate computed tomographic (CT) evidence of an evolving cerebral infarction on seria

Systematic review on prevalence of ADHD, possible ADHD or ADHD symptoms in medical students
N Lee, Melvyn Wei Bin Zhang
SJR Q1Frontiers in PsychiatryOA

Introduction: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a persistent neurodevelopmental disorder that often continues into adulthood, with a global adult prevalence of approximately 3.1%. Among medical students, the condition may be particularly underdiagnosed and undertreated, despite the intense cognitive, emotional, and psychological demands of medical education. This systematic review aimed to examine the prevalence of ADHD in medical students across diverse settings. Methods: A com

SJR Q1The International Journal of NeuropsychopharmacologyOA

Abstract Background Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a severe psychiatric condition affecting a substantial number of individuals worldwide, with a disproportionately higher prevalence among females. PTSD is characterized by dysregulation in both the brain and body and has been associated with accelerated biological aging. Previous studies have linked PTSD to markers of biological aging, such as telomere shortening and alterations in epigenetic clocks. However, its specific impact on bra
