Professor O-Chan Kwon's research lab focuses on autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, particularly in the context of systemic vasculitis, spondyloarthropathies, and thrombotic disorders. The lab investigates the immunological mechanisms underlying conditions such as Takayasu arteritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and antiphospholipid syndrome, with a strong emphasis on cytokine networks (e.g., IL-17A, GM-CSF), bone metabolism, and the role of innate immune cells like neutrophils. The lab integrates clinical epidemiology with translational immunology, using both human cohort studies and preclinical mouse models to explore disease pathogenesis and identify therapeutic targets. Their work also examines the intersection of autoimmunity with comorbidities such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

15OBJECTIVE: To assess the effect of statins on the prevention of recurrent thrombosis in patients with thrombotic APS. We found that IL-17A<sup>+</sup>GM-CSF<sup>+</sup> neutrophils represented the major inflammatory cells in the lungs of curdlan-treated SKG mice. In addition, GM-CSF and IL-17A appear to play a more important role than TNF-α in ILD development.
