Professor Sae-Tae Kim's research lab specializes in modern Korean literature, with a focus on the literary modernization of 20th-century Korean poetry. The lab explores the ideological, aesthetic, and structural transformations in the works of pioneering poets such as Sowol Kim Jung-sik and Midang Suh Jong-ju, emphasizing their divergent worldviews and ironic literary forms. Research directions include intergenerational literary evolution, the deconstruction of classical poetic authority, and the emergence of modern poetic subjectivity in post-colonial Korea. The lab also investigates the psychological and cultural undercurrents embedded in literary experimentation during this transformative period.
