研究室紹介

Professor Sang-hoon Lee's research lab focuses on interdisciplinary studies at the intersection of health sciences, community development, and construction risk management. The lab investigates the impact of social and medical interventions—such as bee venom therapy, acupuncture, and community-based tourism—on physical and psychological well-being. It also conducts quantitative analyses of operational risks in residential construction, emphasizing defect classification and loss modeling. The lab’s work bridges public health, environmental psychology, and engineering to promote sustainable community development and patient-centered healthcare solutions.

The influence of social support from intermediary organizations on innovativeness and subjective happiness in community-based tourism
Sanghoon Lee, Namhee Lee, Timothy J. Lee, Sunghyup Sean Hyun
SJR Q1Journal of Sustainable Tourism

This study examines the influence of social support from intermediary organizations on innovativeness and subjective happiness in community-based tourism (CBT). The authors collected data from 236 residents who had participated in the Tour Dure project in South Korea. The analysis, using partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), shows that social support from intermediary organizations has a positive effect on the innovativeness of residents. Further, the more innovativeness t

Evaluating the Impact of Defect Risks in Residential Buildings at the Occupancy Phase
Sanghoon Lee, Sanghyo Lee, Jae-Jun Kim
SJR Q1SustainabilityOA

This study investigated defect risks in residential buildings using the Loss Distribution Approach (LDA), a method of identifying and quantifying operational risks in economic terms. Analysis was performed on 7554 defects in 48 residential buildings where defect disputes occurred between 2008 and 2017. Defects were classified into eight types: affected functionality, broken items, corrosion, detachment, incorrect installation, missing task, surface appearance, and water problems. Work types were

The bi‐directional relationship between place attachment and emotional solidarity in a rural destination: A two‐way approach
Sanghoon Lee, Dongoh Joo, Kyle Maurice Woosnam
SJR Q1International Journal of Tourism ResearchOA

Abstract Despite the evidence suggesting emotional solidarity as an antecedent of placement attachment, tourism research has maintained the monolithic view where place attachment antecedes emotional solidarity. To challenge the conventional view, survey data from rural tourists in South Korea were collected and analyzed. Stepwise regression analysis results confirmed that the two constructs were bi‐directionally related and the model assuming emotional solidarity as a predictor of place attachme

Objectives : This study was performed to observe effect of acupuncture stimulation on heart rate variability in stroke patients. Methods : Data were obtained from heart rate variability of 29 stroke patients. Heart rate variability was measured total five times(before and after needle insertion, before and after needle removal, and 10 minutes after needle removal) for five minutes each time. Results : Heart rates were continuously decreased until 10 minutes after needle removal. SDNN, Total powe

Intermediary organizations as supporters of residents’ innovativeness and empowerment in community-based tourism
Sanghoon Lee, Dongoh Joo
SJR Q1Journal of Sustainable Tourism

Despite the importance of intermediary organizations in promoting community-based tourism, little is known about how different types of social support from intermediary organizations assist residents’ capacity building, such as their innovativeness or empowerment. To address this research gap, this study collected survey responses from 353 South Korean residents participating in a government-supported community-based tourism initiative and examined via structural equation modeling the relationsh

Does taking vacations make people happy? A regional disparity perspective
Sanghoon Kang, Christine A. Vogt, Sanghoon Lee
SJR Q1Asia Pacific Journal of Tourism Research

This study examines happiness determinants from a regional disparity perspective. Data from a national leisure survey conducted in South Korea was used. Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression was performed. Findings indicate that leisure satisfaction, vacationing, participation in club activities, participation in volunteer activities, gender, marital status, household income, and education level were significantly related to respondents’ happiness. These determinants were further investigated

Natural Amenities, Neighborhood Dynamics, and Persistence in the Spatial Distribution of Income
Sanghoon Lee, Jeffrey Lin
Working paperOA

We present theory and evidence highlighting the role of natural amenities in neighborhood dynamics, suburbanization, and variation across cities in the persistence of the spatial distribution of income. Our model generates three predictions that we confirm using a novel database of consistent-boundary neighborhoods in U.S. metropolitan areas, 1880-2010, and spatial data for natural features such as coastlines and hills. First, persistent natural amenities anchor neighborhoods to high incomes ove

Using nostalgia to increase tourists’ destination loyalty in heritage cities: from imagined to productive nostalgia
Sanghoon Kang, Woo Gon Kim, Sanghoon Lee
SJR Q1International Journal of Urban Sciences

This study examines how nostalgia influences the relationships between emotional solidarity, tourists’ satisfaction, and destination loyalty in heritage cities. An online survey of tourists in South Korea was administered. Through the data analysis techniques of PLS-SEM, we found that the three dimensions of tourists’ emotional solidarity with local residents, consisted of feeling welcomed, emotional closeness, and sympathetic understanding, are significantly related to satisfaction, but only fe
