研究室紹介

Professor Sang Hyub Lee's research lab specializes in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary oncology, with a focus on molecular mechanisms underlying pancreatic and bladder cancers, as well as liver cystic tumors. The lab investigates tumor biomarkers, epigenetic alterations (such as NPTX2 methylation), and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers to improve prognosis prediction and therapeutic decision-making. Key research directions include identifying genetic and epigenetic drivers of cancer progression, evaluating chemotherapy regimens in metastatic pancreatic cancer, and refining diagnostic criteria for complex biliary and pancreatic lesions.

Fas (Apo-1/CD95) is a cell-surface receptor involved in cell death signaling. The key role of the Fas system in negative growth regulation has been studied mostly within the immune system, and somatic mutations of Fas in cancer patients have been described solely in lymphoid-lineage malignancies. We analyzed somatic mutations and loss of heterozygosity of Fas gene in 43 transitional cell carcinomas of urinary bladder. Overall, 12 tumors (28%) were found to have Fas mutations, including 11 missen

CD24 and S100A4 Expression in Resectable Pancreatic Cancers With Earlier Disease Recurrence and Poor Survival

The expression of markers of EMT and metastasis in PDACs was significantly associated with pathologic features of aggressiveness. CD24 and S100A4 expressions were significant predictors of poor survival; thus, immunohistochemistry for these markers in resected specimens may help to identify PDAC patients with a poor prognosis.

In hepatic cysts with mural nodule, left-lobe cyst or increment of serum alkaline phosphatase seem to be indicative of BCTs in the diagnosis of suspicious hepatic cyst. Intracystic debris, bile duct dilation, and mural nodule may be suggestive clinical features of malignancy in BCTs.

How to predict the outcome of endoscopic mechanical lithotripsy in patients with difficult bile duct stones?
Sang Hyub Lee, Joo Kyung Park, Won Jae Yoon, Jun Kyu Lee, Ji Kon Ryu, Yong‐Tae Kim, Yong Bum Yoon
SJR Q2Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology

An impacted stone, stone size (>or=30 mm) and stone size to bile duct diameter ratio (>1.0) were predictors of failure of endoscopic mechanical lithotripsy for a difficult bile duct stone. Alternative approaches should be considered in patients with predictors of unsuccessful endoscopic mechanical lithotripsy in order to avoid wasting time and resources.

BACKGROUND: FOLFIRINOX (FFX) and Gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel (GnP) have been recommended as the first-line chemotherapy for metastatic pancreatic cancer (mPC). However, the evidence is lacking comparing not only two regimens, but also sequential treatment (FFX-GnP vs. GnP-FFX). METHODS: Data of 528 patients (FFX, n = 371; GnP, n = 157) with mPC were collected retrospectively. Propensity score matching was conducted to alleviate imbalance of the two groups. Overall survival (OS), progression

Breast cancer resistance protein expression is associated with early recurrence and decreased survival in resectable pancreatic cancer patients

SJR Q1Pathology International

The prognosis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains dismal even after complete resection, with most recurrences occurring within 1-2 years postoperatively. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-binding cassette (ABC) transporters have been demonstrated to play major roles in multidrug resistance (MDR) of cancers. In this study, we evaluated the expression statuses and the clinical significance of MDR1 (ABCB1), MDR-associated proteins (MRPs/ABCC) 1, 2 and 3, and breast cancer resistance prote

SJR Q2Clinical Transplantation

We undertook an evaluation of the clinical outcomes of endoscopic cholangioplasty (ECP) and percutaneous cholangioplasty (PCP) for biliary strictures after liver transplantation. We compared success rates of intervention, patency after successful intervention and procedure-related morbidities in 79 patients with anastomotic stricture (n = 54) or non-anastomotic stricture (n = 25). Twenty-five ECP and 61 PCP procedures were performed; seven PCP procedures were consecutively performed after failur
