研究室紹介

Professor Sang Kyu Park's research lab focuses on molecular parasitology, ion channel biology, and the pathophysiology of neurological and metabolic disorders. The lab investigates the molecular mechanisms of anthelmintic drugs like praziquantel, identifying novel drug targets such as the schistosome TRP channel SmTRPM_PZQ. It also explores lipid signaling pathways involving epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs) and GPR40 receptors in vascular function, as well as the enzymatic regulation of melatonin synthesis in plants. Additionally, the lab contributes to clinical research in neurocritical care, evaluating prognostic scoring systems and anatomical predictors in neurosurgical ICU patients.

The anthelmintic drug praziquantel (PZQ) is used to treat schistosomiasis, a neglected tropical disease that affects over 200 million people worldwide. PZQ causes Ca2+ influx and spastic paralysis of adult worms and rapid vacuolization of the worm surface. However, the mechanism of action of PZQ remains unknown even after 40 years of clinical use. Here, we demonstrate that PZQ activates a schistosome transient receptor potential (TRP) channel, christened <i>Sm</i>TRPMPZQ, p

We study the predictive power of Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) and Simplified Acute Physiology Score II (SAPS II) in neurosurgical intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Retrospective investigation was conducted on 672 consecutive ICU patients during the last 2 yr. Data were collected during the first 24 hours of admission and analyzed to calculate predicted mortality. Mortality predicted by two systems was compared and, multivariate analyses were then performed for

The anterior clinoidectomy group showed a more tortuous course of intracranial ICA around the ACP than the nonclinoidectomy group. Therefore, measurement of the distal ICA angle is helpful in predicting the necessity of anterior clinoidectomy.

We analyzed the tyrosinase (TYR) gene of 12 Korean patients with various types of oculocutaneous albinism (OCA). We identified five different mutations in the TYR gene in 4 patients with severe OCA and in 2 patients with mild OCA, but found no mutations in the 6 patients with mild OCA phenotypes. Among the 5 mutations, a frameshift mutation, P310insC, was detected most frequently (allele frequency = 0.5), and the other mutations were found less frequently, two of which, L288delT and IVS2-7t-->a,
