研究室紹介

Professor Sang-Woong Han's research lab specializes in nephrology and clinical kidney disease management, with a strong focus on electrolyte and fluid balance disorders in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). The lab investigates the clinical efficacy and safety of pharmacological agents—particularly RAS blockers and tolvaptan—in managing potassium and sodium disturbances, including hyperkalaemia and hyponatremia. It also explores the impact of hemodialysis on ocular parameters and the neuroprotective potential of natural compounds like puerarin in ischemia-reperfusion injury. The research integrates clinical trials, observational cohort studies, and translational models to improve patient outcomes in renal and metabolic disorders.

No impact of hyperkalaemia with renin-angiotensin system blockades in maintenance haemodialysis patients

SJR Q1Nephrology Dialysis TransplantationOA

BACKGROUND: Renin-angiotensin system (RAS) blockades, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) and angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) are well accepted for the cardiorenal-protective benefits added to antihypertensive effects in chronic kidney diseases (CKD), but associated with an increased risk of hyperkalaemia. However, few studies have investigated the effect of RAS blockades on serum potassium in dialysis patients. METHODS: Hyperkalaemia associated with RAS blockades by ACEI an

SJR Q1American Journal of Nephrology

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients are prone to both hypo- and hypernatremia. Little has been published on the epidemiology of hypo- and hypernatremia in ambulatory patients with non-dialysis CKD. Methods: Data collected in two contemporaneous CKD cohort studies, the Renal Research Institute (RRI)-CKD study (n = 834) and the Study of Treatment of Renal Insufficiency: Data and Evaluation (STRIDE) (n = 1,348

TLV is effective in correcting hyponatremia and well-tolerated in Korean patients with SIADH. However, those with low body weight, low BMI or severe hyponatremia, could be vulnerable to overcorrection with the initial dose of 15 mg TLV.

Effect of Hemodialysis on Anterior Chamber Angle Measured by Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography
Yong Un Shin, Ji Hong Kim, Heeyoon Cho, Dae Sung Kim, Joo-Hark Yi, Sang-Woong Han, Mincheol Seong
SJR Q2Journal of OphthalmologyOA

Purpose . To investigate the effect of hemodialysis (HD) on the anterior chamber angle by anterior segment optical coherence tomography (ASOCT) and other ophthalmologic parameters in patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). Methods . A prospective observational study was performed on 20 patients who underwent HD for ESKD. Anterior chamber angle images were obtained by 16 mm line scan of ASOCT. The angle opening distance (AOD) and the trabecular-iris space area (TISA) were determined using

Safety and Efficacy of Tolvaptan in Korean Patients with Hyponatremia Caused by the Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone
한상웅, 이주학, 강경표, 김하연, 김수완, 최훈영, 하성규, 김근호, 김양욱, 정경환, 신석균, 김호중

Background: The aim of this multicenter study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of tolvaptan (TLV) in Korean patients with the syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone (SIADH). Methods: Of 51 enrolled patients with SIADH, 39 patients (16 female patients, aged 70.8 ± 11.3 years) were included in an intention to treat analysis. All patients received 15 mg/day as the initial dose, and the dose was then increased up to 60 mg/day (as needed) until day 4. Results: Serum sodium

Protective effect of puerarin on spinal cord injury resulting from ischemia and reperfusion in rabbits
Sang-Woong Han

AIM To study the effects of puerarin on spinal cord injury resulting from ischemia and reperfusion. METHODS Twenty male New Zealands white rabbits were randomly divided into two groups: ischemia group (Group A, n =10) and puerarin group (Group B, n =10). The spinal cord ischemia rabbit model was made by occluding infrarenal abdominal aorta for 20 min. In Group B, puerarin 30 mg·kg -1 was administered intravenously 10 min before clamping. In Group A, 9 g·L -1 saline was used as Group B. The produ

Hyperkalemia in Chronic Kidney Disease
Sang-Woong Han
SJR Q2Electrolytes & Blood PressureOA

Potassium balance and serum potassium level are maintained until very late in chronic kidney disease (CKD), mainly because of an increase in renal and colonic excretion. Hyperkalemia may develop earlier in the course of CKD in patients with hyporeninemic hypoaldosteronism. Hyperkalemia in CKD patients may occur in association with excess dietary potassium intake, constipation or prolonged fasting. It may also be seen with the use of potassium-sparing diuretics, angiotensin converting enzyme inhi

Current Status of Central Concentrate Delivery System for Hemodialysis in Korea
Sang-Woong Han, Joo-Hark Yi, Ho Jung Kim
SJR Q2Blood Purification

So far, less than 10% of hemodialysis (HD) facilities in Korea have adopted a kind of central delivery system (CDS) for dialysates, the so-called Korean central concentrate delivery system (CCDS). In our CCDS, all concentrate solutions of the acid and bicarbonate dry powder mixed with the treated reverse osmosis (RO) water in the mixing tank and stored in the holding tank are centrally delivered to individual HD machines via two streams along with a one further stream for dilution RO water. This

P0157GENETICALLY DETERMINED HYPOALBUMINEMIA AND THE RISK OF HYPERTENSION: GWAS-BASED INSTRUMENTAL VARIABLE ANALYSIS

SJR Q1Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation

Abstract Background and Aims Hypoalbuminemia is a clinical indicator of vascular endothelial dysfunction. However, the genetic association of hypoalbuminemia with hypertension has not yet been clarified. We investigated whether genetic variation(s) associated with decreased serum albumin level is deeply related with increased risk of hypertension. Method Mild hypoalbuminemia was defined as a serum albumin concentration of less than 4.0 g/dL. We performed GWAS-based instrumental variable analysis

A Study on the Effect of Soil Properties on Structural Behavior of Fixed Jacket Type Offshore Structure
Sang-Woong Han, Kangsu Lee, Beom-Seon Jang, Junhwan Choi
Journal of the Society of Naval Architects of Korea

For a fixed jacket type offshore structure directly supported by the seabed, the structural behavior of offshore structure depends on the soil properties. Soil properties affect on the stiffness of the piles and the boundary condition in the structural analysis. The structural analysis is performed using PSI (Pile-Soil Interaction) suggested in the code and design rule. PSI analysis of the jacket structure is carried out after various soil types are selected according to the soil properties like

Ovarian specimens from 159 different patients were analyzed for estrogen and progesterone receptor (ER and PR) content with the Dextran-coated Charcoal method. The results indicated that the contents of ER and PR in malignant ovarian tumors were not correlated with the menstrual cycle of the patient, clinical stage and differentiation of the tumor. Among malignant ovarian tumors, the mean ER and PR concentrations in sex-cord stromal tumors and endometrioid carcinomas were higher than those in ot
