Professor Sanghun Han's research lab focuses on translational and clinical studies in surgical disorders, particularly in plastic and reconstructive surgery, with a strong emphasis on functional outcomes and patient-specific factors. The lab investigates the pathophysiology and treatment of conditions such as inverted nipples and neurofibromatosis-associated tumors, integrating molecular mechanisms with clinical applications. Research also extends into oncology, particularly the role of HER2 and signaling pathways like AKT/ERK in early gastric cancer, highlighting a multidisciplinary approach combining molecular biology with surgical outcomes. Additionally, the lab explores rehabilitation metrics, such as fat-mass percentage, in spinal cord injury patients to improve clinical assessment and patient management.

Inverted nipples have been treated by various methods by many authors, but the relationship between the grade of the deformity and the appropriate surgical procedure is not clearly described. In Korean SCI patients, FMP showed good correlation with the duration of SCI and the extent of SCI, while BMI did not. Especially in the motor complete tetraplegia group, the diagnostic value of BMI decreased as the duration after SCI increased. This study suggested that FMP could be used complementarily when evaluating the obesity of SCI patients.

There is little consensus in the literature about the administration of crizotinib in patients with end-stage renal disease undergoing hemodialysis.
