Professor Seong Eun Moon's research lab focuses on health and education policy innovation, particularly in addressing educational inequities and improving clinical outcomes in sleep apnea management. The lab investigates teacher perceptions and systemic support structures for marginalized learners, aiming to inform evidence-based educational policies. Simultaneously, it explores novel, technology-driven solutions—such as AI-powered smartphone applications—for continuous, accurate monitoring of sleep apnea, especially during periods of non-therapy use. This dual focus bridges educational equity and digital health innovation.

Background and Objectives: Adherence to positive airway pressure (PAP) is often suboptimal, and current monitoring relies on device logs that, by design, cannot detect respiratory events outside the therapy window. This creates a physiological blind spot during periods of non-usage. This study aimed to demonstrate the clinical necessity of independent, continuous monitoring using a smartphone-based home sleep apnea test (S-HSAT) by validating treatment effectiveness on adherent nights and quanti

SJR Q1SLEEP

Abstract Introduction Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the standard treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Still, real-world adherence is frequently insufficient, and CPAP device data capture only the treated portion of sleep. As a result, untreated OSA during mask removal is often missed. ApnoTrack is a Class II smartphone-based device that uses AI analysis of breathing sounds to detect apneas and hypopneas across the entire sleep period. This study examined whether ApnoTrack
