研究室紹介

Professor Seoyoung Kang's research lab focuses on translational and clinical research in metabolic and oncological diseases, with a strong emphasis on identifying early biomarkers and predictive factors for disease progression and treatment response. The lab investigates the role of metabolic factors—such as BMI changes and body composition—on neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, while also exploring imaging-based biomarkers, including FDG-PET/CT and lymphoscintigraphy, to guide personalized treatment strategies in cancer and lymphedema. Additionally, the lab examines public health trends in adolescent tobacco and nicotine use, particularly related to emerging products like heated tobacco and e-cigarettes, contributing to preventive health policy.

The effect of body mass index (BMI) changes and variability on the risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD) remains unclear. We analyzed 45,076 participants, whose BMI were measured on phase 1 (2002-2003), phase 2 (2004-2005), and phase 3 (2006-2007), of the Korean National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening Cohort. We evaluated the effect of 2- and 4-year BMI changes and BMI variability on the risk of AD using Cox regression models. In men, association between 2-year BMI changes, BMI variabilit

Prevalence and predictors of heated tobacco product use and its relationship with attempts to quit cigarette smoking among Korean adolescents

SJR Q1Tobacco Control

INTRODUCTION: Heated tobacco products (HTPs) have been available in the Korean market since June 2017. In this study, we examined the prevalence and predictors of HTP use among Korean adolescents and the association between HTP and electronic cigarette (EC) use and attempts to quit conventional cigarette (CC) smoking. METHODS: We analysed the data of a representative sample (n=60 040) of 13-18-year-old middle-school and high-school students in Korea who had participated in the 14th Korea Youth R

FDG PET/CT for the early prediction of RAI therapy response in patients with metastatic differentiated thyroid carcinoma

SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

The patient group with FDG uptake in metastatic DTC showed poor response to RAI therapy regardless of the degree of RAI uptake. Therefore, FDG PET/CT may help us identify the patients with radioiodine refractory DTC and establish an appropriate treatment strategy in the early period.

Trends in the Prevalence of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and Its Future Predictions in Korean Men, 1998–2035

SJR Q1Journal of Clinical MedicineOA

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a serious health concern as it can progress to liver cirrhosis and hepatoma. We investigated past trends in the prevalence of NAFLD and related factors among Korean men and women from 1998 to 2017 and predicted their future prevalence among Korean men. We used data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey I-VII (KNHANES). NAFLD was defined as a hepatic steatosis index of >36. Subjects with viral hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, cance

SJR Q2Clinical Nuclear Medicine

PURPOSE: This study was performed to evaluate the usefulness of lymphoscintigraphy in predicting the surgical outcomes of lymphaticovenous anastomosis (LVA) in a patient with extremity lymphedema. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated 133 patients with extremity lymphedema who underwent lymphoscintigraphy followed by LVA surgery from February 2018 to March 2020. Lymphoscintigraphic findings were evaluated on the following parameters: the extent of dermal backflow (small/large), lymp

Preoperative IFH measured by 18F-FDG PET/CT was associated with recurrence of endometrioid endometrial cancer. The finding supports evidence that FDG-based heterogeneity can be a novel and useful predictor of endometrioid endometrial cancer recurrence.

Extracellular Vesicles Induce an Aggressive Phenotype in Luminal Breast Cancer Cells Via PKM2 Phosphorylation

SJR Q2Frontiers in OncologyOA

Background Aerobic glycolysis is a hallmark of glucose metabolism in cancer. Previous studies have suggested that cancer cell–derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) can modulate glucose metabolism in adjacent cells and promote disease progression. We hypothesized that EVs originating from cancer cells can modulate glucose metabolism in recipient cancer cells to induce cell proliferation and an aggressive cancer phenotype. Methods Two breast cancer cell lines with different levels of glycolytic act

Gender Differences in Comorbidities and Attitudes Regarding Weight Control among Young Adults with Obesity in Korea
Seo Young Kang, Hye Soon Park
SJR Q1Obesity FactsOA

INTRODUCTION: Obesity in young adulthood increases the risk for premature death, and the prevalence of obesity rapidly increasing among young adults, particularly in young men. We evaluated the gender differences in accompanying comorbidities and attitudes regarding weight control among young Korean adults with obesity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We analyzed 2,050 young adults with obesity (1,325 men and 725 women) in the 7th KNHANES (2016-2018) aged 19-44 years, with body mass indexes (BMIs) ≥25.0
