Professor Seung Chul Heo's research lab specializes in surgical oncology and minimally invasive surgical techniques, with a strong focus on improving postoperative recovery and long-term outcomes in colorectal cancer patients. The lab investigates multimodal rehabilitation strategies, scarless surgical approaches like transanal endoscopic surgery (TOET), and the biological mechanisms underlying cancer progression, particularly the role of glucose transporters and cancer stem cells in treatment resistance. Their work integrates clinical outcomes with molecular oncology, leveraging large-scale genomic databases such as TCGA to identify prognostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets.

15A rehabilitation program with early mobilization and diet after laparoscopic colon surgery results in reduced recovery time without increased complications. These results suggest that a multimodal rehabilitation program may increase the short-term benefits after laparoscopic colon surgery.
TOET was feasible and could be performed safely for PTMC. TOET might become a new treatment option for the patients who do not want to leave visible scars on the body.

Elderly patients with hyponatremia, combined resection, longer operation/anesthesia time and admission to ICU had tendencies to develop POD after major abdominal surgery.
