研究室紹介

Professor Seung Hyun Park's research lab focuses on translational medical imaging and molecular mechanisms underlying disease progression, particularly in oncology and reproductive biology. The lab investigates advanced MRI-based tumor response assessment in rectal cancer, explores biomarkers such as OATP1B3 and LOXL3 in cancer prognosis and therapy, and examines signaling pathways involving GSK3 isoforms in sperm motility and stem cell regulation. The integration of radiological imaging with molecular biology enables the lab to identify novel therapeutic targets and non-invasive imaging biomarkers for improved patient outcomes.

Role of Lysyl Oxidase-Like Protein 3 in the Pathogenesis of Graves’ Orbitopathy in Orbital Fibroblasts
Seung Hyun Park, Soo Hyun Choi, Hyun Young Park, JaeSang Ko, Jin Sook Yoon
SJR Q1Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual ScienceOA

Purpose: The lysyl oxidase (LOX) family has been implicated in the pathogenesis of diseases caused by inflammation and fibrosis. Therefore, we aimed to examine the role of lysyl oxidase-like protein 3 (LOXL3) in Graves' orbitopathy (GO) pathogenesis and its potential as a treatment target. Methods: Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction compared the transcript levels of the five LOX family subtypes in orbital tissue explants obtained from patients with GO (n = 18) and healthy controls

SJR Q1The World Journal of Men s HealthOA

Down regulation of kinase activity of GSK3α by inhibitory phosphorylation was positively coupled with human sperm motility, and which was regulated by Ca2+, PKA, Akt, and PP1. Small-molecule inhibitors of GSK3 and PP1 can be considered to potentiate human sperm motility.

Inhibition of mitochondrial cyclophilin D, a downstream target of glycogen synthase kinase 3α, improves sperm motility
Seung Hyun Park, Myung Chan Gye
SJR Q1Reproductive Biology and EndocrinologyOA

BACKGROUND: Cyclophilin D (CypD) negatively regulates ATP production by opening of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore. This study aimed to understand the role of CypD in sperm motility regulation. METHODS: Changes in CypD during sperm capacitation and its interaction with glycogen synthase kinase 3α (GSK3α), a key kinase regulating sperm motility, were examined in mouse spermatozoa. The effects of CypD inhibitor cyclosporin A (CsA) and GSK3 inhibitor 6-bromo-indirubin-3'-oxime (BIO)

Glycogen Synthase Kinase-3 Isoform Variants and Their Inhibitory Phosphorylation in Human Testes and Spermatozoa
Seung Hyun Park, Yang Xu, Yong‐Seog Park, Ju Tae Seo, Myung Chan Gye
SJR Q1The World Journal of Men s HealthOA

In human male germ cells, GSK3 isoforms different in LCRs switch from GSK3β to GSK3α during meiotic entry, suggesting the isoform-specific roles of GSK3α and GSK3β in meiosis and stemness or proliferation of spermatogonia, respectively. In dormant Sertoli cells of SCO testes kinase activity of GSK3 might be downregulated via inhibitory phosphorylation. In spermatozoa, inhibitory phosphorylation of GSK3α might be coupled with activation of motility during capacitation.

Dibutyl phthalate disrupts glycogen synthase kinase 3α essential for sperm motility
Seung Hyun Park, Myung Chan Gye
SJR Q1Ecotoxicology and Environmental SafetyOA

To unravel the toxic mechanism of phthalate ester plasticizer endocrine disruptor in spermatozoa, we examined the effect of dibutyl phthalate (DBP) on the stability and inhibitory phosphorylation of glycogen synthase kinase 3α (GSK3α), a protein kinase crucial for sperm motility in mice. In DBP-treated spermatozoa, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxide were significantly increased. In computer-assisted sperm analysis, DBP at concentrations of 10 - 100 μg/mL significantly decreased tot

Paternal Microplastic Exposure Alters Sperm Small Noncoding RNAs and Affects Offspring Metabolic Health in Mice

Microplastics (MPs) are small plastic particles emerging as significant environmental pollutants. Humans are ubiquitously exposed to MPs, and recent studies have associated MP exposure with an increased risk of chronic diseases. MPs can also be detected in both male and female reproductive tissues in humans. Parental exposure to various environmental contaminants can increase the risk of cardiometabolic disease in offspring. However, the impact of parental MP exposure on offspring health has not

SJR Q2Asian Cinema

The purpose of this study is to explore the transformation of the Korean film industry after Hollywood distribution companies were given the goahead to release their films in Korea. The focus is on the specific period between 1988 and 1993, when the Korean film industry was in the first stage of "free competition." The article is structured around the three components of production, distribution, and exhibition.
