긍정적 평가를 받은 후 경험하는 심리적 과정을 이해하는 것이 사회불안 연구에서 중요한 변수로 최근 부상하고 있으나, 긍정 평가에 대한 부정적인 반응과 관련된 인지적 측면에 관해서는 선행연구가 제한적이다. 본 연구에서는 개별적으로 연구되어 온 세 가지 인지적 측면을 긍정적 평가에 대한 부정적 해석’이라는 통합적인 틀의 연구주제로 보고, 사회불안과의 관계를 살펴보았다. 대학생 190명을 대상으로 긍정적 평가에 대한 부정적 해석의 세 측면(높아진 기대를 충족시키지 못할 것이라는 해석, 상대방이 호의적으로 평가한 것이라는 해석, 상대방의 진정성을 의심하는 해석)이 사회불안에 특정적인 변인인지 확인하였다. 그 결과, 긍정적 평가에 대한 부정적 해석 중 두 측면(높아진 기대를 충족시키지 못할 것이라는 해석, 상대방이 호의적으로 평가한 것이라는 해석)이 사회불안을 유의미하게 설명하였고, 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움과 우울의 영향을 통제한 후에는 상대방이 호의적으로 평가한 것이라고 해석하는 측면이
