Professor Seung Min Han's research lab focuses on the intersection of microbiome science, metabolic health, and neurodegenerative diseases, with a particular emphasis on how gut microbial metabolites influence systemic inflammation and neuroinflammation. The lab investigates the role of polymeric flavonoids and their microbial derivatives—such as 5-(3',4'-dihydroxyphenyl)-γ-valerolactone—in modulating immune responses and endothelial function. Additionally, the lab explores sex-specific and chronotype-related influences on mental health, as well as the pathophysiological mechanisms linking metabolic and adipokine signaling (e.g., leptin) to Alzheimer’s disease pathology. Advanced multi-omics technologies, including NGS-based metagenomics and targeted drug delivery systems using magnetic nanomaterials, further expand the lab’s translational research portfolio.
