Professor Seung-yeon Pyun's research lab focuses on advancing gynecological oncology and maternal-fetal medicine through innovative diagnostic and surgical approaches. Key research directions include improving the clinical utility of tumor markers like CA 19-9 in distinguishing benign from malignant conditions, optimizing minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques—particularly in gynecologic cancers—while evaluating learning curves and outcomes, and leveraging large-scale data and artificial intelligence for fetal monitoring via cardiotocography interpretation. The lab also investigates rare but clinically significant conditions such as isolated brain metastasis in neuroendocrine cervical cancer and congenital anomalies like ruptured patent urachus in utero.
