研究室紹介

Professor Seung-Yul Maeng's research lab specializes in computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and numerical control (NC) machining simulation, with a focus on efficient and accurate simulation of complex tool paths. The lab develops advanced geometric algorithms for workpiece representation and toolpath simulation, particularly emphasizing Z-map based methods for real-time simulation of both linear and circular tool movements. Their work addresses challenges in free-form surface machining by enabling fast and precise computation of tool-workpiece intersections, enhancing the performance of CAM systems. The lab also contributes to the integration of geometric modeling and manufacturing process simulation for improved machining accuracy and efficiency.

A fast NC simulation method for circularly moving tools in the Z-map environment
Seung Ryol Maeng, Nakhoon Baek, Sung-Yong Shin, Byoung K. Choi

In numerically controlled (NC) machining simulation, the Z-map is frequently used to represent the workpiece. Since the Z-map is usually represented by a set of Z-axis aligned vectors, the machining process can be simulated through updating it with the intersection points between the vectors and the tool swept surface. In our previous work (S.R. Maeng et al., 2003), we achieved a fast Z-map update method for linearly moving tools. On the other hand, typical NC simulation codes contain lots of ci
