Professor Si-Ho Kim's research lab focuses on infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and clinical outcomes in hospitalized patients, with a particular emphasis on bloodstream infections, antibiotic stewardship, and vaccine safety. The lab investigates the epidemiology and pathogenesis of serious bacterial infections, including vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus and Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia, while evaluating the impact of antimicrobial use and host factors on patient mortality. Research also extends to vaccine-associated adverse events and the role of corticosteroids in severe infectious complications such as CAPA (COVID-19-associated pulmonary aspergillosis). The lab integrates clinical microbiology with epidemiological and statistical approaches to improve patient outcomes through evidence-based infection management strategies.

15Coronavirus disease 2019 vaccinations for healthcare workers (HCWs) have begun in South Korea. To investigate adverse events (AEs) of the first dose of each vaccine, any symptom was collected daily for seven days after vaccination in a tertiary hospital. Our study showed that the dose of corticosteroid use might be a risk factor for CAPA development and the possibility of CAPA contributing to adverse outcomes in critically ill COVID-19 patients.
In patients with persistent SAB, PBS at treatment day 4 was associated with 30-day in-hospital mortality rather than defervescence and bacteremia duration. The results of this study could help determine early intensified treatment strategies in persistent SAB patients.
