Professor Soo Hoon Kim's research lab specializes in advanced materials characterization and biomedical applications, with a strong focus on graphene-based nanomaterials and their chemical modifications using spectroscopic techniques such as high-resolution photoemission spectroscopy. The lab also investigates neurological disorders, particularly pediatric epilepsy and gliomas, integrating neuroimaging, molecular pathology, and clinical outcomes to identify biomarkers and prognostic factors. 15Chemically modified epitaxial graphene (EG) by azidotrimethylsilane (ATS) was investigated using high-resolution photoemission spectroscopy (HRPES). Through the spectral analysis, we clearly confirmed that EG is modified by thermally generated nitrene radicals and found that the bonding nature between the nitrene radicals and EG is covalent. PURPOSE: To determine if defects in mitochondrial respiratory chain enzyme complexes (MRCs) contribute to the etiology of childhood epilepsy. A mixed-basis band-structure interpolation scheme for fcc d-band metals has been extended to include fluorite-structure (${\mathrm{CaF}}_{2}$) compounds by incorporating more plane waves in the basis set.
