研究室紹介

Professor Soo Mee Bang's research lab specializes in clinical epidemiology and thrombosis management, with a focus on venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention and treatment in Asian populations. The lab conducts large-scale population-based studies using national health insurance databases to evaluate VTE incidence, risk factors, and treatment trends, particularly in surgical patients. It also plays a key role in developing and updating evidence-based clinical guidelines for VTE prophylaxis in Korea, integrating international standards with local healthcare contexts. Additionally, the lab investigates pharmacological interventions, including anticoagulants and premedication strategies, to improve patient outcomes in invasive procedures.

The incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) is lower in Asian populations than in Western populations. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the annual age- and sex-adjusted incidence (ASR) of VTE from 2009 to 2013 in South Korea. In addition, annual change in the pattern of VTE treatment during the study period was estimated because a new direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) had become available and was covered by health insurance in Korea beginning in January 2013. VTE cases from 20

In 2010, we proposed the first Korean Guidelines for the Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism (VTE). It was applicable to Korean patients, by modifying the contents of the second edition of the Japanese guidelines for the prevention of VTE and the 8th edition of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. From 2007 to 2011, we conducted a nationwide study regarding the incidence of VTE after major surgery using the Health Insurance Review and Asse

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of intravenous lorazepam as premedication for bone marrow aspiration and biopsy (BMAB). DESIGN: Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled. PATIENTS: One hundred and thirty-eight consenting patients planned to receive BMAB. INTERVENTION: Patients were randomly assigned to receive either intravenous lorazepam 1 mg or placebo just prior to BMAB. SETTING: Tertiary referral center, inpatient setting. OUTCOME MEASURES: A questionnaire was used to determine the pa

This represents the largest epidemiological study showing a gradual increase in the use of pharmacological prophylaxis in Korean patients undergoing TKA/THA. Although the incidence of VTE is still low without pharmacological prophylaxis, this study demonstrates that the incidence of VTE can be reduced further using appropriate pharmacological thromboprophylaxis strategies.

This guideline focuses on the primary prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in Korea. The guidelines should be individualized and aim at patients scheduled for major surgery, as well as patients with a history of trauma, high-risk pregnancy, cancer, or other severe medical illnesses. Currently, no nation-wide data on the incidence of VTE exist, and randomized controlled trials aiming at the prevention of VTE in Korea have yielded few results. Therefore, these guidelines were based on the se
