Professor Soo Yun Shin's research lab specializes in digital communication, misinformation, and the psychological impact of emerging media technologies. The lab investigates how interactivity on social media, particularly on platforms like Twitter, shapes public perceptions of political figures and influences political engagement. A central focus is on the role of psychological mechanisms—such as social presence, narrative transportation, and perceived vividness—in mediating the effects of multimedia disinformation, including deepfakes and multimodal fake news. The lab also explores how source credibility, message modality, and individual differences affect information evaluation and behavioral intentions in the digital age.
