研究室紹介

Professor Soo-Jin Kim's research lab specializes in the development and application of advanced organic and hybrid electronic devices, with a strong focus on flexible and nonvolatile memory technologies based on organic field-effect transistors and nanomaterials such as gold nanoparticles. The lab also investigates the physiological roles of incretin hormones—particularly glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP)—in metabolic regulation, exploring their impact on insulin secretion, beta-cell function, and adipocyte metabolism, with implications for type 2 diabetes therapeutics. Additionally, the lab contributes to medical imaging research, particularly in improving the diagnostic accuracy of multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) for gallbladder cancer staging. The integration of materials science, bioelectronics, and translational biomedical research defines the lab’s interdisciplinary approach.

Flexible Organic Transistor Memory Devices
Soo‐Jin Kim, Jang‐Sik Lee
SJR Q1Nano Letters

The flexible nonvolatile organic memory devices were developed on the plastic substrates based on the organic thin-film transistors embedding self-assembled gold nanoparticles (Au(NP)). The organic memory devices exhibited good programmable memory characteristics with respect to the program/erase operations, resulting in controllable and reliable threshold voltage shifts. Additionally, the endurance, data retention, and bending cyclic measurements confirmed that the flexible memory devices exhib

Glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) is a gastrointestinal hormone that potentiates glucose-stimulated insulin secretion during a meal. Since GIP has also been shown to exert β-cell prosurvival and adipocyte lipogenic effects in rodents, both GIP receptor agonists and antagonists have been considered as potential therapeutics in type 2 diabetes (T2DM). In the present study, we tested the hypothesis that chronically elevating GIP levels in a transgenic (Tg) mouse model would increas

OBJECTIVE. The objective of our study was to evaluate the performance of MDCT in the preoperative T-staging of gallbladder cancer and to determine whether adding multiplanar reconstruction (MPR) images to axial images can improve the accuracy of MDCT for the T-staging of gallbladder cancer.

Resistin Is a Key Mediator of Glucose-dependent Insulinotropic Polypeptide (GIP) Stimulation of Lipoprotein Lipase (LPL) Activity in Adipocytes
Sujin Kim, Cuilan Nian, Christopher H.S. McIntosh
SJR Q1Journal of Biological ChemistryOA

Studies on the physiological roles of the incretin hormone, glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) have largely focused on its insulinotropic action and ability to regulate beta-cell mass. In previous studies on the stimulatory effect of GIP on adipocyte lipoprotein lipase (LPL), a pathway was identified involving increased phosphorylation of protein kinase B (PKB) and reduced phosphorylation of LKB1 and AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). The slow time of onset of the responses sug

Nonvolatile nano-floating gate memory devices based on pentacene semiconductors and organic tunneling insulator layers
Soo‐Jin Kim, Young‐Su Park, Si-Hoon Lyu, Jang‐Sik Lee
SJR Q1Applied Physics Letters

Controlled gold nanoparticle (AuNP)-based nonvolatile memory devices were developed based on pentacene organic transistors and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) insulator layers. The memory device had the following configuration: n+Si gate/SiO2 blocking oxide/polyelectrolytes/AuNP/PMMA tunneling dielectric layer/Au source-drain. According to the programming/erasing operations, the memory device showed good programmable memory characteristics with a large memory window. In addition, good reliability

Heterotaxy Syndrome

SJR Q2Korean Circulation JournalOA

Heterotaxy is defined as an abnormality where the internal thoraco-abdominal organs demonstrate abnormal arrangement across the left-right axis of the body. This broad term includes patients with a wide variety of very complex cardiac lesions. Patients with heterotaxy can be stratified into the subsets of asplenia syndrome and polysplenia syndrome, or the subsets of heterotaxy with isomerism of the right atrial appendages and heterotaxy with isomerism of the left atrial appendages. Treatment of

Suppression of Arabidopsis RING E3 ubiquitin ligase AtATL78 increases tolerance to cold stress and decreases tolerance to drought stress
Soo Jin Kim, Woo Taek Kim
SJR Q1FEBS Letters

AtATL78 is an Arabidopsis RING E3 ubiquitin ligase. RT-PCR and promoter-GUS assays revealed that AtATL78 was up-regulated by cold stress and down-regulated by drought. AtATL78 was localized at the plasma-membrane. Suppression of AtATL78 increased tolerance to cold stress but decreased tolerance to drought. Our data suggests that AtATL78 is a negative regulator of cold stress response and a positive regulator of drought stress response in Arabidopsis. These results further suggest that AtATL78 pl

SJR Q2Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance and predictive factors of extrathyroidal extension of papillary thyroid carcinoma based on preoperative sonography. METHODS: Preoperative sonography was performed for 568 patients who underwent surgery for papillary thyroid cancer between May 2009 and December 2010. Patients' T stages based on preoperative sonography were compared with their T stages based on pathologic examination, and we statistically analyzed the

Two strains, designated 5413J-26(T) and KIS18-15(T), were isolated from the air and forest soil, respectively, in South Korea. Cells of the two strains were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, polar-flagellated and rod-shaped. According to the phylogenetic tree, strains 5413J-26(T) and KIS18-15(T) fell into the cluster of Sphingomonas sensu stricto. Strain 5413J-26(T) showed the highest sequence similarities with Sphingomonas trueperi LMG 2142(T) (96.6%), Sphingomonas molluscorum KMM 3882(T) (96.5%),
