研究室紹介

Professor Sookyung Park's research lab focuses on applied linguistics and writing studies, with a strong emphasis on second language (L2) writing performance, particularly among Korean EFL university students. The lab investigates how discourse modes—such as narrative and argumentative writing—affect linguistic features like fluency, syntactic complexity, lexical diversity, and accuracy. It also explores the impact of writing proficiency, rater perspectives (including native and non-native English-speaking teachers), and assessment methods (holistic vs. analytic rubrics) on writing outcomes. Additionally, the lab examines psychosocial factors in clinical populations, such as symptom clusters and quality of life in patients with atrial fibrillation, reflecting a multidisciplinary approach to health-related quality of life and patient-reported outcomes.

Symptom Clusters, Psychological Distress, and Quality of Life in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation
Cho Hee Bang, Sookyung Park
SJR Q2HealthcareOA

Background: Patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) experience diverse symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, and fainting that lead to depression, anxiety, and poor quality of life. Management of symptoms is fundamental for AF, and with the increasing prevalence of AF, studies on management of symptoms in patients with AF are needed. Objectives: This study aimed to assess symptom clusters according to symptom severity in patients with atrial fibrillation and evaluate the relationships between

This article proposes that the Republic of Indians can be taken as a socio-political unit for analysis of the colonial regime of New Spain. After the military victory in Tenochtitlan, the encomienda and the municipality were implanted in New Spain as the first colonial systems. However, the power struggles carried out between the conquistadors, the Spanish Crown, the royal authorities, the settlers, and the clergy resulted in the modification of the colonial system. The Republic of Indians appea

Lexical Analysis of Korean University Students’ Narrative and Argumentative Essays
박수경

This study investigated whether two different writing tasks (narrative and argumentative), elicit different lexical features. This study also attempted to identify the relationship between lexical features and the level of writing proficiency. Seventyeight university students wrote one narrative and one argumentative essay, with a 30-minute time limit for each task. A total of 156 essays were rated by eight raters using holistic rubrics, and then were divided into three levels of writing profici

The Interplay of Task, Rating Scale, and Rater Background in the Assessment of Korean EFL Students’ Writing
박수경

This study examines how native English speaking (NES) and Korean non-native English speaking (KNES) teachers assess L2 writing performance. More specifically, this study aims to investigate whether these two groups of raters evaluate writing samples differently when using different rating scales (holistic vs. analytic) and different task types (narrative vs. argumentative). Four NES and four KNES raters evaluated 78 narrative and 78 argumentative essays written by Korean EFL university students

The conservation status of an endemic perennial herb, Hanabusaya asiatica (Nakai) Nakai (Campanulaceae) was determined by applying the IUCN risk assessment criteria from our field study and available specimen data. Also, the GIS technology was used to develop a species distribution map to calculate the extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) for the taxon. After two years of continuous field studies, 269 mature individuals were found in four localities in 2011, while 216 mature indi

Tracking a central banker's preference: A nonparametric regression approach
Cheolbeom Park, Sookyung Park
SJR Q3Bulletin of Economic Research

Abstract We examine how the Fed's preference influences the behavior of inflation rate and unemployment rate using US data over the period of 1960–2017. After showing instability in a constant‐coefficient regression, we run a nonparametric regression, and find that the Fed's preference parameters have moved, implying that its preference can be represented by the asymmetric preference model putting more weights on high unemployment rate approximately before the era of Volcker's chairmanship and b
