DEFINING SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
John T. Mentzer, William Dewitt, James S. Keebler, Soonhong Min, Nancy W. Nix, Carlo D. Smith, Zach G. Zacharia
SJR Q1Journal of Business Logistics

A management construct cannot be used effectively by practitioners and researchers if a common agreement on its definition is lacking. Such is the case with the term “supply chain management”—so many definitions are used that there is little consensus on what it means. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to examine the existing research in an effort to understand the concept of “supply chain management.” Various definitions of SCM and “supply chain” are reviewed, categorized, and synthesized. Supply chain collaboration: what's happening?
Soonhong Min, Anthony S. Roath, Patricia J. Daugherty, Stefan E. Genchev, Haozhe Chen, Aaron D. Arndt, R. Glenn Richey
SJR Q1The International Journal of Logistics Management

Purpose Collaboration has been referred to as the driving force behind effective supply chain management and may be the ultimate core capability. However, there is a fairly widespread belief that few firms have truly capitalized on its potential. A study was undertaken to assess the current level of supply chain collaboration and identify best practice. Design/methodology/approach Supply chain executives provided insights into collaboration. Survey data, personal interviews, and a review of the

DEVELOPING AND MEASURING SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT CONCEPTS
Soonhong Min, John T. Mentzer
SJR Q1Journal of Business Logistics

To investigate the construct of Supply Chain Management and its antecedent construct of a Supply Chain Orientation, reliable, valid scales of each are needed. In this study, we developed measurement scales for a supply chain orientation (SCO) and supply chain management (SCM). Validity and reliability of the developed scales were established and the relationship between a SCO, SCM, and business performance was also established, providing evidence of nomological validity. The implications of thes

Defining Supply Chain Management: In the Past, Present, and Future
Soonhong Min, Zach G. Zacharia, Carlo D. Smith
SJR Q1Journal of Business Logistics

The article titled “Defining Supply Chain Management” published in 2001 in the Journal of Business Logistics has been cited over 4,900 times in the last 17 years. In this paper, we first provide a historical review of how the article originated and the contributions the article made to both the theory and practice of supply chain management (SCM). Next, we highlight the key market and technological changes that have emerged in SCM followed by how the theory proposed in the 2001 article can still

Toward a unified theory of logistics
John T. Mentzer, Soonhong Min, L. Michelle Bobbitt
SJR Q1International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management

Despite the growing importance of logistics in corporate strategy and the global economy, the logistics literature reveals little effort to build a unified theory of logistics (i.e. a theory of the role of logistics in the firm). Thus, the purpose of this paper is to move toward a unified theory of logistics within the contexts of the strategic role and capabilities of logistics. Considering the importance of logistics in today's corporate strategy, various theories of the firm are adapted to ex

The role of marketing in supply chain management
Soonhong Min, John T. Mentzer
SJR Q1International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management

The concept of supply chain management (SCM) started in the logistics literature, and logistics has continued to have a significant impact on the concept. This study, however, proposes that the concepts of the marketing concept, a market orientation, relationship marketing, and SCM are not separate. Rather they are inextricably intertwined. The main purpose of this study is to highlight the role of marketing in the implementation of SCM by suggesting cause‐and‐effect relationships. Research prop

DEVELOPING SOCIAL IDENTITY AND SOCIAL CAPITAL FOR SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
Soonhong Min, Stephen K. Kim, Haozhe Chen
SJR Q1Journal of Business Logistics

Competition involves not firm against firm but rather supply chain against supply chain, but few studies explain theoretically the subsistence of a supply chain as a social entity or the operating mechanisms through which firms socialize to obtain better business performance. On the bases of social identity theory and social capital theory, the authors suggest that the salience of supply chain identity accumulates social capital in a supply chain, which then facilitates supply chain management a

An Internet-Mediated Market Orientation (IMO): Building a Theory
Soonhong Min, Seokwoo Song, James S. Keebler
SJR Q1The Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice

A market orientation (MO) has long been an essential concept in the marketing discipline. Advanced information technologies show a great potential for information acquisition, sharing, and dissemination, all of which are the essential processes of an MO. This paper proposes a framework of an Internet-mediated market orientation (IMO), in which the Internet functions as a transformer of the traditional MO into a more efficient and effective way of implementing an MO online toward sustaining compe

Assessing the e-Service Quality of Sellers in an Industrial e-Marketplace
Soonhong Min, Ming Zhou, Doyun Kim, Jayoung Kim
SJR Q2Journal of Promotion Management

Existing studies of electronic service quality (e-SQ) mainly deal with online shopping mall operators in business-to-consumer (B2C) markets, whereas research into the e-SQ of sellers in industrial electronic marketplaces (e-marketplaces), characterized by multiple sellers and multiple customers, is lacking. Therefore, this study intends to determine if existing theories developed and tested in the B2C online shopping mall context are directly applicable to measure e-SQ of industrial e-marketplac
