Professor Soyoung Bang's research lab focuses on the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, particularly rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and ankylosing spondylitis (AS), with a strong emphasis on gene-environment interactions. The lab investigates the roles of HLA-DRB1 shared epitope, PADI4 polymorphisms, smoking, and environmental stressors such as cryopreservation in disease susceptibility and progression. Additionally, the lab explores cellular stress responses, including autophagy in oocytes, and the clinical implications of antibiotic resistance in *Helicobacter pylori*. Their work integrates molecular genetics, immunology, and translational research to identify biomarkers and develop preventive strategies for chronic inflammatory conditions.
