研究室紹介

Professor Sumin Lee's research lab specializes in environmental biotechnology and biomedical engineering, focusing on the development of fungal biodegradation systems for removing endocrine-disrupting chemicals such as bisphenol A, phthalates, and methoxychlor. The lab also pioneers wearable rehabilitation devices using smart materials, particularly knitted shape memory alloys (SMA), to provide combined therapeutic functions like heat, pressure, and dynamic joint assistance for patients with mobility impairments. Research spans from molecular-level analysis of estrogenic activity to clinical applications in orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation.

Two lignin-degrading basidiomycetes, Stereum hirsutum and Heterobasidium insulare, were used to degrade bisphenol A (BPA) in culture, and the estrogenic activity of the degradation products was examined using MCF-7 cell proliferation assays (E-screen) and analysis of pS2 mRNA expression in MCF 7 cells. Both S. hirsutum and H. insulare showed high resistance to BPA 100 ppm, and their mycelial growth was fully completed within 8 d of incubation at 30 degrees C. It took 7 to 14 d to achieve complet

SJR Q2Biotechnology and BioengineeringOA

In this study, white rot fungus, Polyporus brumalis, was applied to degrade dibutyl phthalate (DBP), a major environmental pollutant. The degradation potential and resulting products were evaluated with HPLC and GC/MS. As DBP concentration increased to 250, 750, and 1,250 microM, the mycelial growth of P. brumalis was inhibited. However, growth was still observed in the 1,250 microM concentration. DBP was nearly eliminated from culture medium of P. brumalis within 12 days, with 50% of DBP adsorb

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common childhood psychiatric conditions. In 2007, the Korean Academy of child and Adolescent Psychiatry developed Korean ADHD practice parameter. Advances in the scientific evidence of ADHD caused practice parameter to be modified and updated. The present guidelines developed by ADHD translational research center summarize current literature for the treatment of ADHD in children and adults. This parameter includes the clinical ev

SJR Q1Fashion and TextilesOA

Abstract We developed the knitted shape-memory alloy (SMA) as a flexible actuator and applied it to a soft wearable exoglove for rehabilitation assistance. Based on user needs and anthropometric data, we custom-designed the exoglove for three hemiplegic patients using the knitted-SMA actuator and evaluated its bending performance, gripping force and wearability under the four simulation conditions (S1–S4). To address the specific needs, both SMA plain- and double-knit modules were applied to the

Osteoarthritis is a chronic disease that affects joint cartilage and can cause severe pain and disability. Minor neglected injuries may also result in other diseases that affect daily life. Various attempts have been made to develop wearable auxiliary devices using functional fabrics, but few have simultaneously provided both heat and pressure. Using knitted shape memory alloy (SMA) fabric, a module was manufactured that achieved bending and contraction during operation. An elbow brace that simu

Abstract As the global population ages, there is an increasing demand for physical assistive devices for the elderly. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a wearable gripping aid for elderly women to assist in their handgrip ability. We developed an actuator module for the hand-gripping aid using a 4D knitted shape memory alloy and attached to a flexible nylon glove. At baseline, we measured the bending angles of the knitted shape memory alloy and the subjects’ fingers while gripping. The be

Shape memory alloys (SMAs) have an innate property that allows them to return to a memorized form when stimulated. They have been recently designed as flexible fabrics for use in wearable assistive devices. This study aimed to develop a rehabilitation assistive glove with good wearability for a hemiplegic patient using a knitted SMA with a high-unidirectional contractile response. We fabricated warp-knitted SMA actuators, which had higher contractile responses than those of weft-knitted SMA. The

Abstract Electronic monitoring systems have been globally adopted to track criminals to ensure public safety efficiently. In this study, we aimed to assess the wearability of an electronic bracelet using multiple evaluation methods, including the evaluation of range of motion (ROM), air gap (AG), and clothing pressure (CP) at the wearer’s wrist, as well as self-scoring of subjective comfort (SC). We recruited eight Korean male participants (N = 8) who were in their 30 s and did not have any musc
