Professor Sumin Yu's research lab specializes in classical Chinese literature, with a primary focus on the interplay between mythological archetypes, gender roles, and political ideology in Ming dynasty vernacular novels. The lab explores how literary figures—particularly female characters such as the 'fox spirit' and 'wicked woman'—are constructed through layered cultural and religious discourses, especially within the cosmological framework of the *Fengshen Yanyi* (Investiture of the Gods). The lab investigates narrative strategies that reflect and reinforce sociopolitical ideologies, employing theories from cultural studies, ritual theory, and comparative mythology.

1명대 신마소설 《봉신연의》에 등장하는 달기는 중국 문헌 속에 오랜 시간 누적되어 온 ‘악녀’와 ‘여우요괴’의 이미지가 작품의 ‘봉신 세계관’ 안에서 서사적으로 잘 구현된 인물이라 할 수 있다. 본고는 이러한 달기 형상의 연원과 소설에서의 서사적 재현 양상을 살펴보고, 그 안에 내포된 문화적 함의와 의미 작용을 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 달기는 본래 상나라 주왕의 총비로서 역사적 문헌 속 ‘악녀’의 이미지와 신화적 전승 속 ‘여우요괴’의 이미지가 결합된 복합적 인물이다. 본고는 선진 시기부터 당송 대에 이르기까지 두 이미지가 각각 형성되고 점차 암합되는 과정을 고찰하며 이것이 《봉신연의》 서사에서 어떻게 극대화되어 재현되는지 살펴보았다. 또한 원대 강사화본 《무왕벌주평화》와의 비교를 통해, 《봉신연의》가 달기에게 ‘음부(淫婦)’의 이미지를 덧씌우고 그녀의 악행을 ‘천명(天命)’과 결부시킴으로써 명대 사회의 인식 체계를 반영했음을 논의하였다. 나아가 본고는 소설의 핵심 주제인 ‘봉신(封
